Daily Calorie Intake

Recommended Posts

What's the recommended or normal daily calorie intake for bandsters? I can't seem to remember.

Right now, I'm probably taking in 800-1200 calories daily. Huge difference from how much I used to eat...

So, about how many calories do you take in per day on average?

there was a recent thread with a poll on this subject. Maybe you could do a search and locate it.

I range between 600-1000; I try to stay between 600-800 but occasionally will treat myself and go higher :rolleyes2:

My doc told me in the hospital (can't remember if it was before or after the relaxation drug - so take it for what it's worth) to try and stay between 600-800; and that this is when I would lose the most so I should make the most of it.

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/how-many-calories-do-you-consume-average-day-31389/

That's the thread I was thinking of. The poll results were roughly half of the majority were between 800 and 1000 and the other half were 1000-1200.

I try not to go over 1200. Even at that I'm a slow loser. If i see the scale stall, then I'll do an 800-900 calorie day or two and then go back to 1100 or 1200. That seems to move the scale, even if it's just one pound.

When i get some restriction, I hope to have more frequent 800 calorie days, as under 1000 seems to work best for me. Tracking Protein also works for me.

I always stay between 800-1300 calories. 1300 is a bad day, which we ALL know now, a bad day banded is better than a good day without the band! :rolleyes2:

I try to stay under 1000. If i go above that, it means I'm having a bad day and trouble in controlling head hunger...

I stay between 800 and 1100 but we were told 1000 to 1200 is where we want to be eventually. I vary my calories each day but stay within those boundries....I vary the calories to keep my meatbolism up.

So far it seems to be working great for me.....I am nearly 12 weeks out and have lost 40 pounds!!

My doc said no LESS than 1000 . I found when i was at 800 i would not , could not lose weight . I stay between 1000-1200 a day to lose.

I personally think that 600-800 is not enough ?

It worked for me to eat 1500 to 1800. I guess I was a slow loser, I took 18 months to lose 85lb, but then again, I did start out with a BMI of 35 so I thought that was more than reasonable.

I run an hour a day and have a pretty active daily life, and am 5ft 10, so not ever designed to be 100lb and run on miniscle portions.

Really, I think its individual, its YOUR body and only you can decide what's best. Personally, I think the more you can eat and still lose the healthier you'll be, and the easier you'll adapt to a healthier lifestyle. The weight is more likely to stay off too when you're not having to live on air to sustain it.

But some people just dont lose unless they really restrict their diet.

I agree , also as you up or if you up your exercise routine you need to up your calorie intake. if a person is say running 3 days a week they should be eating over 600 calories.

But like Jachut said each person is indivdial . As time goes on you learn how much you eat and how much you need to move to get weight off.

I personally dont normally track calorie intake ( I feel I dont need it ) Unless my weight loss stops , which it has only done once and in that case i was not eating enough . i was only taking in 800 cals .

I don't really go by calories. I'm one of those that need to watch the carbs to lose weight. I think it's partly due to PCOS and being insulin resistant. I tried doing a calorie restricted diet and it just didn't work as well for me. I agree with Jachut, find what works best for you and stick to it. Good luck to you!

I eat about 1500 calories per day. I burn about 2500. This allows me to lose about 2 pounds a week. Sometimes I exercise a little more and will lose a little more. I have had only 1 week since April when I did not lose at least 2 pounds with this plan. I also eat 6 small meals a day.

I don't count calories unless I am not losing for a long stretch which knock on wood hasn't happened but once. I eat when I am hungry and don't when I am not. I try to eat healthy foods a majority of the time and occasionally indulge in something absolutely horrible for me (because I am normal and even normal people do that occasionally!) The only time I counted calories was in the first 2-3 weeks after surgery when I was so so tired all the time from not getting enough calories.

I try to get in 1200 calories a day. It is important to maintain a balance, expecially if you are working out. You have to eat to stoke your metabolism. My trainer at the gym insisted that I eat about 2600 calories a day! NOT GONNA HAPPEN LADY! (of course, her goal for me was to lose 25 pounds in 6 months!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
