Is this what "being stuck" is like?

Recommended Posts

I'm a dork I admit. I have read many times about people getting "stuck" and I thought I got the concept of the meaning. Let me share what happened yesterday and maybe I can get ya'll input as to what may have happened.

Since my surgery my doctor said I could pretty much eat what I want (no stages) If I got stuck drink something. Well I have tried to pretty much eat the softer foods etc because of everything I have read here... I have noticed that I have not had ANY problems and I was told pretty much I would have no restriction until my first fill next month. YESTERDAY pizza was brought into the house and I peeled the topping off a piece and ate it. No problem. Maybe feeling a little over confident or whatever I then took a bite, ONE bite of pizza and I swallowed and OMG I thought I was gonna die. I felt this right away and I had a pressure in my chest that scared the heck outta me. If this was "stuck" it was dead center in my chest and happened the minute I swallowed. Is this what "Getting stuck" is? I have had a tight/pressure feeling in my chest two more times since yesterday and it has ALWAYS happened after I took a bite???

Yeah, that sounds like a minor stuck episode. A bit more stuck and you'd have saliva pooling in your mouth that you cant swallow (without making the golf ball feeling worse) and for me, I get the shakes, and a need to burp but I cant. It really hurts. Anymore than that and up it comes.

I'm astounded that a doctor would tell you to drink when you're stuck. That does NOT help. It will make the pain a thousand times worse. Dont do it.

MINOR? Dear God I was ready for 911! Ok maybe not 911 but it scared the stew outta me. So it's normal to feel it in your chest when your stuck? Some how I thought it would be more in your stomach. Thanks for the info!

I am really surprised your doctor did not start you on liquids and then mushies and so on. And... if i take a drink when I am stuck, I just spew liquid all over the place. Best of luck. Donna

I realize that some doctors do not require a post op diet. But "just drink something" if you get stuck? That's about the worst thing you can do. It's like pouring more Water into a stuck toilet--not a good idea.

Oh, and a "major" stuck episode usually results in sliming and pbing. If it is really bad it can last a long time. The usual wisdom is to switch to liquids for 24 hours to let any residual swelling go down.

I'm only banded for 6 days but am practically hoping I get stuck so I can get it over with. It actually terrifies me for all I've read time and time again:eek:

I've just started having minor stuck episodes since I got my first fill. I'm taking small bites, but apparently not chewing well enough so I've gotten the pain, but not the sliming or pb'ing. I've had more episodes today as I think 6 days into my first fill I'm starting to get some restriction.
