Recommended Posts

Hi Sorry to hear your feeling bad! I was just wondering what hydrocodone? Is that pain meds? I was just wondering never heard of it before. What you are going through is what I am most worried about. I have never had any kind of surgery so I have no idea of what my pain talorents is going to be. Hope you feel better

Hi, yes, hyrocodone is the liquid pain med, and it makes me so sleepy I can't keep my eyes open. Has anyone taken anything other than that for the pain?

If you are still having any pain, they do sell Tylenol in liquid form. My husband picked it up for me at the grocery store my second day post op and it worked very well.

HI Im 5 days out and I am agreeing with some other posters that you're not getting enough calories. I was having really bad dizzy spells last night every time I stood up and I am only having less than 400 calories a day. Now I added Light and Fit smoothie with some unflavored Protein Powder and so I hope that won't happen again. Hope you feel better soon.

I only took pain meds for 3 days, after that it really wasn't bad. I did feel weak and dizzy though. I think it's because youv'e gone from having say 3,000 calories to about 300 and your body thinks you're starving it to death! I felt lots better after adding a Protein Shake. I was out of work for 2 weeks and I really needed that time to recover!

:tt1: I know if you take pain medication on am empty stomach it will make you sick. It needs to be taken with your soft foods or liquids.< /p>

So Sorry to hear your not feeling well. I was banded on the 22nd and I feel good, but not good enough to go to work. I can't imagine how they could expect anyone to go back to work in a few days. I have 6 weeks off, I do some heavy lifting in the hospital I work in. But this is abdominal surgery, even with a desk job, I would think at least 2 wks if not 3. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi, I got banded 1/25 in MX and I heard from the nutritionist that extreme fatigue, weakness is brought about by dehydration.

If you can't find tylenol liquid (I couldn't) look for the Tylenol "meltaways" they say for kids on the box, but the dosage instructions tell you how many to take for your weight. I haven't had to take any, but they look like you chew 'em.

Well, I had some excedrin in the melting form that I took for the headache. I think it's helped. I still feel so sick & weak, and haven't eaten or drank much at all today. Just the thought of it makes me gag. I'm going to call the dr tomorrow. And will try to get more food down. It feels like something is pulling when I try to stand up. I wasn't told much when I was dismissed, so this site is a life saver. Thanks to all of you for your input. This is tough to do alone. My S/O is out of town til the 4th so I've been toughing this out by myself. :tt1:

I was banded friday (1/25) and stopped taking the pain meds on the first day. When I was discharged Sat I asked Doc if I could just take Advil since the pain meds make me sick. He told me that was fine so that's what I've been doing. I take one in the morning and one in the evening. Of course we all seem to get different instructions so i would call and ask.

I was banded on January 14 and by day 4 I was experiencing extreme nausea, weakness, feeling like I was getting dehydrated and basically feeling like I was dying. Certainly was wondering what I did to myself!! My doctor recommended I go back onto Clear Liquids. Initially he thought this was within the norm, saying it was not unusual to feel this way for the first 5-7 days post op, but did get concerned when this persisted and had me take an upper GI to ensure that I did not have early slippage. Luckily, test results were negative. I continued on clear liquids only and by my one week anniversary, I felt remarkably better. My MD said I must have had alot of swelling around the stoma and could not tolerate the pureed baby food (as recommended by my nutritionist).

I would definately speak with your MD but do try to hang in there and keep hydrated- broth, Water, diluted juice, ice pops etc.

Hope you feel better soon. Rooting for you.

MaryT.

Thanks everyone. Doesn't sound like this is anything out of the ordinary. I'm trying to hang in there- all of you have said it's worth it. Just hard to see the "big picture" right now. Maybe I can just sleep until this phase passes.. lol!

My husband and I were both banded on Janurary 24th. I have no problem swallowing but I have a problem everytime I drink a clear liquid I am in the bathroom. My husband on the other hand cannot drink. He told the doctor that it feels like it gets stuck and they ran a barium swallow 2 times and said everything was fine but he says everytime he takes a drink it feels like he is choking and it is getting stuck. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do for both of us. I feel so empty and so does he.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
