Bad Habits Resumed After Lap Band?

Recommended Posts

You know we all have our muse. Be it a cocktail, favorite vino, brewski or in my case...chocolate. Oh, don't get me wrong, not just any old chocolate, no..mine has to be the expensive import fused with orange. If I still smoked, this would be equal to a fresh pack, just packed and cracked, first light puff. But I quit smoking some 15 years ago and now I can't handle the intoxicating second hand stuff.

As for alcohol, I really love rum but the bite is too much now. Seems I am more sensative to it than I use to be.

As with all things now, my "want it" and my "tried it and it didn't taste as good as I thought" kicked in.

I have had a few drinks and no issues.

I still eat to fast, chew to little and tend to "gulp". I had fill #2 this morning so am hoping that it will help.

I have to agree with Lap_Dancer on the chocolate. I still have my chocolate. Not as much as I used to and ONLY the really good stuff. But I do still have it.

I am not a smoker and dont really drink but I will have a drink with friends. Usualy a mix of pineaple juice coconut rum and grenidine. ummmm

I started back drinking 4 weeks after surgury. My doctor did not tell me about any restrictions regarding drinking. I think its just like any other high calorie choice. They only wanted to be sure I was not still on the pain medication. Thats a norm.

I was told no drinking because of 1. carbonation 2. empty calories.

That and then the research that shows your body has to burn off alcohol before it gets to fat.

I can't drink when I eat (normal drinks, make me feel stuck) and alcohol before a meal, irritates my stoma and it burns really bad, then I feel too tight to eat. Nothin like vodka sittin in your esophagus for a minute. Ick. If I drink, has to be no when I'm no where near eating and I do small sips.

I quit smoking years and years ago, but still drink on occasion. I usually opt for something without carbonation, but if I get something carbonated, I sip slowly, and it loses the fizz quickly with the alcohol anyway.

I was also warned off due to the empty calories. I accept that they are just that, and make a concious decision when I choose to have a drink.

This is not a diet for me, I want to live today the same way I want to live the rest of my life, with my diet issues in moderation. That includes the occasional drink. I have a friend who is single and banded, and she drinks some most weekends. Never to a point of no return! But she has several drinks per week, and it has not affected her over the last 2.5 years that I am aware of, her weight has dropped, and stayed off.

Never heard of the possible link to erosion.....

I thought we weren't supposed to drink because it might cause erosion?

you might be thinking of drinking carbonated drinks ?

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
