Hi everyone,

O.K. help me out here. I had my first fill on Jan 4th and of course no real restriction to speak of. Here is my dilema. I am not scheduled for another fill until the end of Feb. because I am going to Mexico on Valentines day and don't want to risk being to full and out of the country. At this point I am not losing and have actually gone up a lb. I have been active, doing the biggest loser workout videos, skiing 3 times in the last 2 weeks, and shoveling snow.

Do you think that I should try to get in for a fill before my trip, or should I just suck it up and kick it into high gear when I return? Not that I would be able to get in to see him before Valentines day with my luck anyway.

Ari

Hi Ari

It's me Tammy I havent had my surgery yet but I can understand your concerns. If it was me I wouldnt want to be to full because what if you throw up the whole time your in Mexico. That wouldnt be fun right now if I was you I would focus on having a little fun. You deserve it, you have done wonderful job with the lap-band. I will see you @ the next support group.

Hey Ari,

I say suck it up...lol maybe he can get you in next week, I am going in on the 7th, so is Deb. That would give you a week to adjust. Or just wait and get on it when you get home. I would be bummer to not feel good on your trip. Maybe more shakes, less solids for a couple of days to jump start yourself? Just some ideas.

OK, so what has been going on with everyone. I am looking forward to my next fill, on the 3rd. I have not heard a peep from you Tammy and Ari how was Mexico. Wonderful I hope. So now it is up to you folks since I found this site. With a lot of coaching from my own personal gladiator!! Yeah!

Hello everyone,

O.K. so here is my ongoing saga. Couldn't get my fill on tuesday because everyone in my house had the flu and I of course did not want to take the chance of just getting a fill and then having to throw-up with the flu. So I rescheduled my fill for yesterday (Friday). So while Dr. Trotter was checking to see how much Fluid I had in my band he states, something here is not right. He was able to push a small amount of Fluid in, with force, but unable to extract any fluid with the needle. So, I am now scheduled for next friday to go back and do a fill under flouro. Dr. Trotter says that the tubing from the port to the band may have gotten a kink as scar tissue could have formed around it during the healing process. He also said that the port is a little more mobile than he thinks it should be, but had no problem finding it or sticking it with the needle. I can say that I feel no additional restriction from the slight fill that he was able to put in, so who knows how much I have. He says that I should have about 4.5cc's at this time.

See everyone on tuesday,

Ari

Hey Lisa,

Nope, not fixed yet. I am scheduled for April 18th, but still waiting for insurance approval. I would hate to see how long I would have to wait if it was an emergency situation!!!

See you on tuesday?

Ari

Hi all,

Had my tubing unkinked on friday. All went well, but still a little sore. I was planning on going back to work today but will take one more day because of the soreness. Talk to everyone soon.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
