Lapband & Hot Tubs

Recommended Posts

I am planning to join the YMCA today and they have a hot tub. Does anyone know if it is ok to use the hot tub? I remember when I was pregnant that I couldnt use one bec it wasnt good for the baby. I was thinking that it would not be a good idea bec of the possible heating the band or port. Of course today is Sunday and the doctors office is closed. Any other hot tub users out there?

My doctor told me no hot tub, but I assumed it was because of the incisions. Now that they are healed, I am using it again. It's a question I keep forgetting to ask my doctor. Please post your doctor's answer when you ask.

The hot tub is fine as soon as all your scabs have healed from surgery. Two months after surgery you can pretty much do anything you did before surgery. My doctor banded a high school kid who won the state title in wrestling a year after having his band - it's pretty resilient!

My dr said no hot tub for the first week to 10 days after surgery so I'm guessing after that it would be fine. I'm sure if you are healed from your surgery the hot tub would be fine.

Scruffy, I was banded on 28days ago, and my new "to me" gym required a DR release before using the facility. My Dr released me to use the pool on feb 08.

My doc said okay on the hot tub as well, but wanted the incisions 100% healed first. I've noticed that sometimes if I'm stressed and tight, a dip in the hot tub not only relaxes me, but also relaxes the muscles invovling the band.

Marlu 77 Had my surgery 12/31/07 and went to the doctor today and ask about the hot tub. He wants me to wait one more week before going in the hot tub. He said one of my incisions was still not quite healed. He said I could go and stay in as long as I want after that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
