Plastic tans - the Miss America contest

Recommended Posts

I used to love watching this pageant as a kid, and now the gals just look weird to me. Every one must have gone to the same tanning salon - they have the same flat blah tan. The body just doesn't tan evenly - they look so 2 dimensional.

This is the one drawback to HDTV.

The good part of the story is - all my bandster friends are way more beautiful than these golden Barbie dolls. :cursing:

I know a few women who comete in pageants and they all either pay $$$ to have their tans airbrushed on, or have someone in their family who has learned to do it. I don't know any who actually tan, but they will stand there posed for 3 hours while someone airbrushes each individual shade, muscle countour, etc. on their bodies. Usually on top of a sunless tanning product. The stain kind, not the turn you orange kind.

I think pale is beautiful.

The older I get the more I love pale. And there are few things in life that I would do that require standing for 3 hours, ugh. I knew body builders who did that, but didn't realize that pageant contestants did too.

One of the ladies (one of my cousins' wives) told me they smear Vaseline on their teeth, and just try to slurp-swallow to keep from swallowing the Vaseline. They do it because it makes their teeth look shiny on tv. *barf*

Edited - I think I was on crack when I typed that. Sorry for all the boo-boos.

I loved when they talked about butt glue to hold the bathing suit in place.

I still don't see how they choose one over another. They kept hyping it up to find the new "IT" girl. I watched the reality tv part of this and really Ms Utah fit the image for me. She is reality - not trained since pottybreaking on how to model, strut, apply makeup, do hair etc.

I ended up disappointed with it - sigh

You know, people rag on these beauty pageant people, but those contestants work as hard on that stuff as any pro athlete or musician. It's just a different focus.

My sister was involved with that scene back in her teens, and I hung out with her on the weekends during the competitions and saw just how much effort it takes to look and act that way.

(I was also STUPID and completely missed the possibilities inherent in the other contestants. Ah well :rolleyes2:)

You mean you had every teenaged boy's dream to have a sister who could get you backstage at the beauty pageants and you missed the opportunity?? LOL!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
