i was lucky to never had blood pressure probs even at my heaviest. i understand the lack of mobility. i had surgery on my ankle and was in a cast for a month, then a boot for another month. it was so hard to get back moving again and loosening up the tendons and such..painful for a bit. hopefully the doc will be able to give you some good ideas. I am surprised he didnt when he mentioned it was the reason why he wouldnt do surgery. It wouldnt hurt to check around with other doc's to see what they say, if you have a choice of them with your insurance.

So, I have been a police officer for 15 years. The last five I have packed on some serious weight(I and I have never been "skinny"). I decided to get the band a few months ago but more because I have a very active 3 year old son I want to do stuff with. I also want to live more than ten more years. I dont have blood sugar problems or high blood pressure but I know this cant last. I was not going to tell my Chief what I was doing because he is a fitness "nut" and has told me I could drop some weight by just working out with him.:huh2::huh2::blink: Anyway just before going in I said "F" it and I told him. The reaction was not what I expected. He was very enthuiastic. He told me the department would purchase me uniforms, and gear as needed through the weight loss. Felt like I stepped into bizzaro world. Anyway I have a date of Aug 10 at 10am for surgery. Thanks for listening and stay safe.

Good Luck.. you will love the results. Hold your chief to his word about the uniforms you will need new one more often than you think.

Hello All once again,

I am not going to read through all the threads but how long did you take off or should I say how long was it before you went back on full duty (Street) after getting banded? I got banded on 28 August 2009 and I am going back to work Monday on light duty. Give me some insight on how the rest of my brothers and sisters in blue did their recovery time so I know how to judge things. I know that everyone is different and I am only looking for a time line. Thanks everyone!

Any Chippies out there? I'm 3 weeks post-op and will be applying to CHP as soon as I hit 300lbs. I'm down 50 so far with about 17 to go. I've been working on my running since that will be the hardest part of my testing process I think. I have to do a 100 yd run in 20 seconds, and a 500 yd run in 2 minutes, and I'm struggling with those right now, I hope my speed increases as weight comes off.

I am a Deputy with a large department in California. I was banded on 10/19/09. Six days out and 12 pounds down, I'm looking forward to getting back to work. I'm a little concerned about that first tussle that's sure to come. I still have a little pain, and the idea of getting in and out of the car 20 times a shift is bothering me. I would like to know how long other officers waited before going back to patrol?

I waited a week before going back on the desk then a month after that before I went back on the street. My Doctor would not release me back to full duty until 5 weeks because he was worried about me getting into a altercation and my port getting hit. After 5 weeks I was a little sore but not bad and returned to work with no trouble.

Hi All

I work For the State Of Colorado-Department Of Corrections...Been on the job for 13 years...

I was banded back on 12/13/05...I was 320 lbs then

I was doing pretty good. Working out in the AM and working swingshift 2PM x 10pm... At work I do alot of walking...especally climbing stairs.....( comparable to a

street cop in NYC walking the beat )...I got my weight down to 268 lbs..Then my shift changed..8am x 5pm..Mon-Fri..

Yes basically a desk job... My eating habits went to hell, I stop working out..and did not make a Dr. appt...I felt like crap, uniform fits tight...it sucks...I finally made an appt for a fill on 11/11/09... I weighted in @ 345 lbs...That really sucks..I just let myself go like that...I made a follow up appt for Dec 03..hope to have at least lost 6lbs in 3 weeks...we will see...I should know better

if your wearing a uniform and you are a Peace Officer you are an automatic target..If you work the streets you catch them, after they are convicted we hold them....In the streets they want to shoot you, in Prison/Jail they want to shank you... The end result is the same...

We all need to be healthy for the line of work we do and to protect the public/your partner and yourself..

What ever you do don't give up..Keep your Dr. Appt and keep motivated!!!!

Stay Strong!!!!

Joe

What's Happening Everyone? I hope you are all staying safe out there!

I knowthis thread hasn't been updated in a while but I thought I would give it a shot.

I have a few questions for some of you....Did anyone get the band prior to attending their respective academy? Or, was everyone on the job when they had their procedure?

I am being banded on 3/3 and there is a possibility that I may be in a Police Academy by late summer. My question is, how long before I can resume training after being banded? I know that I cannot do anything too strenuos for several weeks. I am more concerned with my cardio as I envision that being the most diffcult for me if I attend the academy. Any insight or thoughts that you could share would be great. Thanks

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
