Have you hit a plateau but are loosing inches?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 1/08/08 and have not lost a pound in the last 10 days, despite sticking to the diet and eating less than 800 calories a day. From what others have posted, this sounds like a typical plateau. I have lost some inches, not a lot. Just wondering what your experience has been like?

I was banded on 1/14/08. I seem to be losing very slowly. It is 2 weeks today and I'm down a otal of 5lbs. I know they say 1-2 pounds per week...But I expected to lose fast initially and then slow down once I got on mushies and solids. I've been on liquids and only down 5. I haven't checked my inches, but I feel a little better. Anyway, I'm a bit frustrated to say the least. I keep reading all these posts about lack of restriction. That isn't even an issue for me right now...Restriction or not, I'm still only taking in approx 700 calories a day. How could my weight loss be so slow? I'm terribly worried that the "slow losing" mushie stage will be more like a "Full Stop" for me.

Its too early to worry about this guys. The time after banding is for healing, and the doctors even know that people can gain some weight, let alone not lose it in the 4-6 weeks after surgery.

Stay away from the scale, and call your doctor for some feedback. Believe me, I have been back to the doctors 3 times since surgery for other reasons and was told each time not to worry about weight loss until I start getting my fills.

THank goodness someone else is feeling the same way I do! I was banded on 1/4/08 and lost 14.6 pounds the first 2 weeks but in the last week I have lost nothing. I emailed the dietician but I haven't heard from him yet. I am on pureed food but I still do drink a Protein Shake and have an Isopure each day so I get my Protein. :tt1:

When I hear from the dietician I will post his response.

OMG I have been so worried about this all week! I was banded on Jan 16 and lost 14 pounds in the 1st 10 days. But now I am 17 days out and I am at the same weight as day 10. One week with no weight lost and I am on mostly liquids. How can I be taking in so few calories and walking 2-3 miles a day and not losing any weight? Also, there is a bulge at my port site. Does anyone else have this?

Guys, really stop worrying, your body is used to the liquids and not eating food by now. Once you start on food, real food, and get that fill, you will start to lose the weight. The 4 weeks after surgery are for healing, we will all lose weight in the next year once we get our sweet spots with the fill.

Chrisann is right. I was banded on 1/10 and lost 16 pounds in 2 weeks. Then, since starting soft foods, I have only lost 1 pound in the past 2 weeks. I was definitely freaking out, but I checked out some other boards (like the Nov. and Dec. 2007 bandsters), and found this is very common. Until we get that fill that gives us the right restriction, we may not lose the recommended 1 - 2 pounds per week.

Be patient. We didn't gain the weight over the course of a few weeks. The band is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. The restriction will come, followed by the weight loss. In the meantime, we need to keep eating healthy, and keep up the exercise.

OOO, i'm so glad I stopped in today. I was banded 1/15/08 and lost 10 but haven't lost in almost two weeks. I've been sticking to my weight watchers plan 100% not even using the extra 35 points and still haven't lost.

I have lost 7 inches around my waist. But would love to see the scale go down.

I feel better reading this, too.

I banded on 1/16 and have lost 22 lbs fast, then nothing. It is crazy to think about adding caolries (though I need to) when I am not losing weight now.

But, I realize tis is what happens to everyone. Very stressful, though.

Weight Watchers always stress that sometimes the body takes time off after a big lose to readjust itself. I guess it is better than having alot of hanging skin. I can tell that my body is smaller. My clothes are baggy and my pants fall down. I had to go shopping in my closet. But I want the scale to change!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm there with the rest of you. Lost 16 lbs real quick (surg. 1/3/08), then nothing. but I am losing inches. (measured at the gym yesterday and have lost quite a bit in 4 weeks, but like you all - I want to see the scale go down. I too, Ladytuscanny, I've been counting points and only get 15-22 a day and still do not lose.

I get my 1st fill in 2 days and am hoping things will click in.

Good luck to all of you,

Kat

This happened to me probably 3 times on my journey. At one stage I lost no weight for 8 weeks but went down an entire dress size.

So after not losing weight for a week and a half I lost another 3 pounds! I was so excited but was extremely hungry. I told myself to just hand on until my first fill on Feb 7th but then when I got to the doc they didn't want to give me a fill because there was some pink around the port site. I totally understand that she didn't want to infect my port and I am truly glad that she is protecting me form getting an infection but I was also very disappointed. I just felt like I couldn't go on like this without some help. I really needed a fill because I have been hungry since a wk and a 1/2 after surgery and I just couldn't keep surviving on liquids. Anyway I told her how I was feeling and she told me to take in more calories just try to stick to liquids and mushies. She even told me to go get a shake so I would feel better. I thought that was awful advice especially in my extremely vulnerable state but she recognized that I was having a breakdown and needed some relief. She also said that weight loss wasn't the goal right now, healing was so just to keep taking care of myself and it would get easier when I got my first fill. She told me she will give me 3cc right off the bat and then make sure I could still take liquids. So for now I am to use a heating pad on the port site daily (she thinks my body still hasn't absorbed the inner scab) and should see the doc again on Valentine's Day.

Has anyone else ever had a fill delayed for something like this?

Did you turn into a pathetic teary-eyed baby?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
