Lisa - Welcome! You are normal, we have all done that. You wouldn't be human if you didn't have all the mixed feelings. Please take some time and browse through all the posts and you will find lots of information.

Good news. You are normal! Let me say this, the very last thought racing through my brain as they were administering the anesthesia is, "THANK GOD."

Oh, and "hurry up!"

Lisa, congratulations! Yes, it's a little like a rollercoaster ride, isn't it? Highs and lows. But what a ride it will be for you! We have bandsters all over...most are in the U.S., but we have others in Ireland, France, England, Scotland, Australia, Canada ( to name a few). It's wonderful that we can all encourage and support each other, if we're right next door or on the other side of the world...connected by the internet.

Hi Lisa,

All your feelings are normal. I actually had a full blown panic attack in pre op. Never had one in my whole life one nurse had me breathing in a paper bag while the other was holding my hand and yet another was wiping my forehead with a cold towel. My advise have someone in preop with you to make the time pass by fast.

I can laugh about it now but every surgery your going to second guess yourself.

Can you imagine a patient running down the hall hooked up to the IV and holding a suitcase in one hand and trying to cover your back side with the other..

Hey Bubba, one of the girls having surgery with me beat your panic attack... she actually got up and ran! She changed her mind on the way to the operating room. She decided against it, but later the doctor was able to talk her into it. She had the surgery later on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
