Banded with the possibility of a career in law enforcement

Recommended Posts

I am succeeding in the sit ups and push ups and working on the run required, but am wondering if anybody out there is in law enforcement that has been banded?????? Detention officer would be the title. I would not be doing patrol on the streets.

Thank you in advance!!!!

I'm not in law enforcement. I'm a lowly rent-a-cop security officer. :hurray: LOL But I have looked into law enforcement for quite awhile even before the band. I even saw this as an opportunity now as I'm getting smaller and don't feel like I'd be snickered at for asking if I could go on a ride-along. Our company works at the courthouse in our county and I know several of the detentions officers there. Good luck with everything! I hope you get your wish!

I am a dispatcher, have thought about moving over to the "other side" and become an officer but weight was always an issue. I may consider it still once I get down to my goal... but I love my current job too much me thinks.

I don't think the band would give you any issues what so ever. Best of luck in your endeavors!

I'm in law enforcement and was recently banded. After 6 weeks post-op, I'll be considered "fit" for duty. A band should not impede you from entering law enforcement provided you meet height/weight requirements (which I did when I was hired - I gained a large amount of my excess weight after a nasty injury).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
