Pre-Surgery Liquid Diet- nauseous- Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi- My surgery is scheduled for February 1st and I started the low carb, high Protein liquid diet today that I have to stay on for the entire week. I am not even a full day into it and have a headache and feel nauseated. I am drinking the protein shakes/soups/etc. (unjury brand, which tastes pretty good). I just don't know what to do about the nausea. Any advice? Thanks!

I used to get headaches when I wasn't getting enough Protein. Are you tracking the number of grams of protein you are getting daily?

I am getting banded on Monday. Like you, I have been dealing with the liquid diet. Honestly, I haven't really experienced any headaches or nausea. I've been sticking with chicken broth and sugarless Jello. it's been a rough week, especially when seeing others eat real food. On the bright side, I have lost 10 pounds. Have you tried swithching up what you are eating to something else.

I'm into my 3rd day pre-op... unlike you I have to do 2 weeks not 1 week of liquids. 1st day was ok. I was actually very active and confident. Yesterday (2nd day) was another thing.. I felt like Sh**!!.. I felt nauseated, tired and had a major a$$ headache!

Nausea= Ice Chips!! Thinking back to when I was in labor and couldn't have anything to eat. THIS WORKS!

Tired= Drank a bottle of Special K Protein Water (my boss had an extra one) & I stepped out to get some air . It helped a lot!

Headaches= the Special K worked on that too.

Today's going ok.. hopefully it will stay this way. I added Tomato Soup to my diet today about a cups worth. we'll see how it turns out.

Good Luck Girl I don't have my surgery till the 7th so I still have a while before THE DAY!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
