Whole Food Market(s)

Recommended Posts

Do any of ya'll ever shop at those whole food markets that i've noticed are becoming more and more popular these days?

i'm sure there's probably one or two in the Houston area but I haven't taken the time to go check one out. So, i thought i'd ask here first and see what everyone thinks of them. the only thing i've heard is that certain items can be a bit pricey....

but, what do ya'll think? have you been to one? better quality food, especially for us bandsters who need to make the nutrients count???

lemme know what ya'll think....i'm thinking it might be a wasted trip, or it might be a great new way to grocery shop.

xoxo, Christie

I do a lot of shopping at Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck) and Green Acres. Some of the items are definitely worth the price, and some are not. Things that I can buy anywhere, like my edamame or soy milk I will get at Target or the local grocery store, but Soups, grains, fruits & veggies (I mainly buy the ones you can't find anywhere else), and often meats I will buy at the organic stores.

Whole foods is ok. They have a good produce section. I prefer Central Market...do you have that in Houston? They have good veggies and stuff.

I like Whole Foods for some things too. I like their fish, its always fresh, even though it costs a little more. You have to know your prices because some things are really expensive.

I would love to buy whole foods, but unfortunately, we don't have any whole food markets in my town. We have a Farmer's Market, but I don't that's the same thing. They have produce and nuts, and that's about it!

I prefer Trader Joe's to Whole Foods. Though the selection is smaller, the prices are MUCHO better.

I also love Central Market, but they don't have any up here in MI, I only can shop those when I am in the DFW area.

We have Fairway in NYC too, and they also have Organic products.

I would think that anywhere in the country where they advertise organic food, produce, meats and fish are worth investigating.

Whole foods is great for certain items, I bought bulk soy protien there. It has no flavour so I can add it to anything. THey also have a delish lobster bisque that I lived on in the full liquid stage.

If you can find a product elsewhere it is probably cheaper, but some products are impossible to find elsewhere. Even if you dont buy anything its a great place to look around and get interesting and healthy meal ideas

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
