I'm officially banded, and home!

Well, I did it! So surreal that it is over, and I'm already sipping full liquids! The pain after surgery was pretty intense, especially with the Co2 in my shoulders. I could barely breathe. Then, when they thought I should be discharged, I sat up and passed out. So, the had to put me back on oxygen, and lay down.

Finally, I got to go home and I felt decent. I just had to keep on top of the pain meds and take them before it was time, or I would be mess! By the time I woke up the next day, I was probably 80% better than I was the day before.

I just wanted to be very honest with everyone on the forum, maybe too honest! But, I do feel better as I write, and it's only been 24 hours!

Please let me know if I can answer any other detailed questions!

Hi there I was also banded on the 23rd. This is my second ay home, I was release the nex day, had to stay overnight. I dont have pain in my shoulder but have bad gas pain. I had a GazX strip and it helped a little, but just that a "Little" I just want to feel normal again. I have been walking around and that seems to work a little bit. Do you work? are u planning to back on soon? Im am scheduled to go back on Tues, but not sure right now. Lets keep this thread going so we can chat back and forth. Feel better

Congrats to you both! I was banded at the beginning of the month and am really feeling great. I have not felt sick at all which has been a total blessing!

I too had that terrible gas pain as well as some shoulder pain, just on one side though. The gas I think was the worst, but it will get better! Be careful not to try too hard though, if you get my meaning! I was pretty sore and that pressure didn't help matters!

I stayed home from work just over a week, but felt much better after about day 4 and could have gone back, but since I had the time off, I decided to enjoy it and focus on me!

Good luck and I look forward to talking to you both!

Hello All! I was banded on the 23rd also. This is my 4th day. I am doing ok the pain isn't to bad. The rumbling of my tummy is so loud...I am doing good with my Protein. I was wondering: Does anyone else smell things they liked the most even when they are the only ones home and no one else is cooking? I smell toast and sometimes brewed coffee or spaggetti sauce...my mind playing games....well good luck to all Be Bless

Well, I was banded yesterday as well. Taylor.......Our stats are very similar, how tall are you? I'm 6ft, well, 1/2in shy. This gas is almost unbearable. But, is getting better as I "fluff" it out! The kids aren't being too brutal on me...boys 5 and 3. They made dad leave me some pizza last night and they got me out a cup of yogurt and a spoon this morning. How Cute! I got home around 12:30 pm. My husband isn't use to being with them ALL of the time, so he decided to make my famous Cowboy Cookies with them. I was flaming at first, but I took one sniff and didn't want anything to do with them, when on any given day the four would have feasted over a gallon of milk and the entire batch. See, I'm already reaping the benefits of this little band. My neck hurts something fierce, too! I think they slung me around by my neck in the OR. As long as I wasn't awake for it, I guess I can't complain:biggrin: So, I'm totally expecting to feel tons better tomorrow. I am, however, having a really hard time getting in the 72 ox per day that they want me to consume! Is anyone else not physically able to get it all in? Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and prayers, even though you all don't know me from Adam. Things are only looking up!

Peace out,

Amy

Amy. I had surgery on a Wednesday. Thursday I had no where near that, maybe 12 oz the whole day? Friday I also had no where near 72 oz. Friday I had 33 oz of liquid. I also couldn't physically tolerate that much. In a few days you'll be able to tolerate more as the swelling goes down.

Here are the amounts I had the next few days: Sunday 66 oz, Monday 70 oz and by Tuesday I was getting in 100 oz+ and I stopped counting because I knew I was getting enough in.

Iam going to try a shake today and see how that goes. Glad you are doing better Amy. Whirl Winds- I think youre mind is playing tricks on you. I havent smelled anything except what my mom has been cooking for the kids and the pizza my husband order for his friends on poker night last night that is. My stomach is rumbling bad today. today makes day 4 and so far lost 6 lbs (unofficially) on my scale. still adjusting. Has anyone started drinking coffee? I want a cup but not sure. Dazzle

Good Morning Dazzle! Thank You! I thought I was going nuts lol! Well, I have had my Decaf coffee everyday so far and had no problems. I would love to suck gravy off of turkey breast,,wanting something hot and not Protein powder:wink2:But will do as told Full liquids only :closedeyes:I have had very little to no problems thus far into 5th day post-op. Gas is not to bad, I agree with the thing about the more I drink the more gas I have. But not everything can be rosey. ROFLMA (rolling on floor laughting my a$$ off) Have a Great Day! Be Bless

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
