What horrible things have Dr.s said to you?

Recommended Posts

I broke my ankle and the doctor I went to didn't see the crack on the x-ray. He pronounced that I had a bad bruise. He asked "What do you do for a living?" I replied that I was a stay at home mom with five kids, the youngest two ages 2 and 4, and he said "Good, because you are going to have to sit with your foot elevated and iced and stay off your feet for several days!" Wow, ignorant jerk! I guess he wanted to make sure I didn't have an 'important' job, like him! Two weeks later I went to a different doctor and found out my ankle was broken and I was on the verge of needing surgery to repair it. My husband proceeded to call the ignorant doctor's partner and give him a piece of his mind-told him how hard stay at home moms work, etc. and the group ended up not charging us anything.

Ugh! These kill me. I have been very lucky, the worst thing my Dr.s office does is assume I weigh a lot less, they slide the scale over, it doesn't move, move it one more notch, nothing, I smile and say thank you, but it needs to go THERE. Then they leave the scale there for the next person to see. I hate that you guys have gone through so much hell. That isn't right.

I've only had one problem with a surgeon. I had to have my gall bladder out and just after the op, I came out of sleep to see 2 men standing over me, the surgeon and his assistant. The surgeon told me they had done key hole surgery but almost had to cut me open because I was too fat, I should lose weight. Great thing to tell someone who's still half asleep!

But I have to say these stories were making me laugh...some of those things they said are funny...although I am sure it wasnt at the time. I guess I really dont get embarrassed too easily. I have thick skin to go along with my thick A**....LOL:lol:

I would probably throw a shallow insult back. Dont worry about what other people say or think...they will get theirs

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
