how do you handle this

Recommended Posts

I have a class tonight from 6 - 9. I wil need to leave at 5. When do I eat? I am not hungry now, but if I wait until 10, I will be over hungry and a break during class to eat is out of the question. This is not the first time something like this has happened, nor will it be the last.

I'm also in school and tons of fellow students including myself bring Snacks and eat during class. Take some pudding, yogurt or Jell-o with you and eat during class. Or you can make a smoothie and drink it during the class.

Abby, I don't know what stage of this journey you are in, but if you are past the immediate post-op stage I would take one or two Protein Bars. I usually keep a couple in my purse for "emergency" meals. I like the South Beach "Sweet Nut Creations" roasted peanut ones, or the Peanut Butter Cereal bars.

Protein Drinks or you can buy those little cans of tuna and eat before class.

Drinking a Protein Shake in class or a bar is not going to work. I am going to have the same problems when I fly across the country in a few weeks and because of the liquid restrictions will not be able to bring a shake. I can try a Protein Bar at that time; but I am having some problems digesting them. Any other suggestions?

Hmm...not sure what you're gonna do then. If you don't wanna take anything to class, then you'll have to either eat before class or after. I guess I'm not sure what the dilemma is. You can eat both times or pick one or the other. It doesn't seem that difficult to me.

Also, there are plenty of beverages offered on airplanes. You don't always have to worry about Protein shakes being available 24 hours a day.

I'm with MJ on this one. Why is this any different from when you were not banded? What would you have done then, and what would you have eaten? What are you eating now when you do not have time constraints?

You can carry some Protein Powder with you on the plane and order milk. There are plenty of band friendly items you can carry in your purse to eat on the plane.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
