Need prices for those in and around D/FW

My husband and I are going to have the lap band done. We just went to our first consult with Lap Band Solutions, but I'm not so sure my insurance will pay. We are going that route first. If insurance doesn't cover it, we will just go to self pay....

Question... What prices did y'all pay (for self payers) and where did y'all go. LBS wants $15K for it, but I know there has to be a cheaper doctor out there that's close by.

Those who had it done in Texarkansas, how much did y'all pay (or how much did the dr charge)?

TIA

All I can say is this, Lap Band Solutions (AIGB), is the best...the doctors have scads more experience, the facilities are wonderful, the office staff is so thorough, polite and efficient, and the aftercare is without doubt, the finest available. They truly care, and the support options are amazing. All this to me was/is priceless. Choose the doc that fits you personally, and rest assured you will be well taken care of afterward...which is the measure of a great facility, IMHO!

TLC Edge has a special deal through the end of Feb for $9,900, that is where I will be banded on 2-14-08. I have also seen an ad for a Dr. Carter in the DFW area with a $9,500 special. I am self pay also.

I know San Antonio is not really close but Dr Jorge Rincon did my surgery in July , I really like him , he's a very nice, excellent surgeon .

His price is $12K includes follow up care for 6 months plus fills .

Click on my sig line for more info or feel free to email me if you like.

He's very good , very caring as well .

I went to LBS first and was ready to get the ball rolling when I saw an ad for Dr. Wade Barker at Doctor's Hospital in Dallas (at White Rock Lake) for $9500. I was banded by Dr. Barker Feb 13th and am so glad for it. I think he is a brilliant Doctor that really is committed to helping people. At LBS, I was the only patient in the waiting room. At Dr. Barkers, there is about a 2-3 hr. wait, but I took this as a good sign. This many people can't be wrong. However, he does the RNY and sleeve as well, so everyone is not a LB patient, but still, in that wait you get to talk to all the other people in the waiting room and here about their experiences with him as well. I have not found 1 person that has had anything bad to say about him yet, and hey, $5,500 dollars is alot a money to me - glad I could save it.

I know it covers your follow up visits and I am in the process of determining how many fills it covers right now. The girl at Dr. Barkers office told me that no fills were included, (fills are $120) but another lady at Vista Hospital (where I did my surgery) told me that price included my first 4 fills if I got the fills there at the hospital. I'll let you know when I find out for sure.

I just spoke with Vista and confirmed that the first 4 fills are included. Also, folow-up appointments with the nutritionist are available at no extra cost.

Thanks Jennifer!

bling~ I sounds like most of the less expensive places don't include as much after care as LBS. My packet from them says that it includes 2 years worth of fills, etc.

True, LBS price does include more fills, but $5,500 would cover alot of fills...You would have to get 45 fills in two years to come out ahead. Just something to think about. That is what persuaded me to go with Dr. Barker.

Price should not be the only factor to consider though, when choosing a Dr. I have a good friend that was banded at LBS and she has nothing but good things to say about them as well.

LBS in Dallas (Richardson office). The lady I spoke with on the phone the first call was great. After that, I have experienced horrible attitudes and little to no follow-up. I am in the early stages of approval with my insurance (have BCBS), but it seems I am organizing the entire process. I may change to another.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
