FINALLY....working after 4 fills!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and gals...its been a while. I got Surgery on July 31st 07'. I started this process at 347 lbs ish. I can honestly say I had NO RESTRICTION for the last 5+ months. A bit at one fill but short lived...MAYBE a week. I just kept trying to eat less and sometimes I did good and other times not so good but I stayed committed to losing weight. I think a point came where I got used to eating less and healthier. Slipped up BIG TIME at Thanksgving, Christmas, and New Year and actually gained like 8 pounds but got it off quickly. I knew I should have went for a fill again as my last was in October. I figured I would be alright but when I got nervous after T'Giving and called...there were no days open that were convenient. Well I finally went the first week in January. They were happy cause I lost 12 pounds since my last visit...I laughed and said it sucked but explained my bad ways. They didnt laugh but understood as I said going in I dont care how slow it comes off as long as I change my ways.

WELL LET ME TELL YOU!!!!! I know what it means to work now. I have had NO PROBLEMS at all but eat very little and am rarely hungry. Hang in there if you are waiting for it to kick in. I thought it never would!! ANYWAY I am down to 268lbs and from a size 48-50 to a size 40-42. Just thought I would check in for people who just got it or are curious about what they are experiencing.

Hi Hip,

I too finally felt restriction after my 4th fill. I love it! Of course what freaked me out was that my restriction was ok from the day I had the fill. Then within 4 weeks, I felt more restriction. WOW!!!! I have lost 11 lbs in 36 days.

I love my band!!! Congradulations on your weight loss. Great job!!!

Congratulations on reaching your sweet spot! I haven't started my journey just yet (2 weeks and counting) but I can't wait to reach that point where my hunger doesn't control me.

Good luck!!!

Wow, I'm jealous of you!!! Thank you so much for the info!

I'm still at the spot when I can't tell if the Band is controlling my eating or if it's me just putting so much less on my plate! Though I will say if I put too much on my plate (more than 1 cup) I start feeling queasy!

Okay, so now I feel much happier, knowing that at some point I will have real restriction!! Whoopee!!! :rolleyes2::thumbup:

Thats why I wanted to post so others will know what it took for me to finally feel it. I have never really been queezy, PBd, Slimed...etc. I PBd ONE TIME like a month ago because I swallowed a piece of toast while helping my 3yo niece cut her pancakes. I guess some people dont get sick? I dont know...I know when I feel like I am getting full...I stop. I have pushed it a few times but usually stop.

NI, That would be cool if it tightened...save me another trip to Philly for a while.

Good Luck Jax! My bro-in-law got banded Monday. Went well.

Make33...I understand the feeling. You dont know if its you...or the band...or did your stomach shrink..etc. Just keep convincing yourself you cant eat a lot and as long as your eating less than you did...your doing good!

that's wonderful! I'm so glad it's working well for you now - pre restriction is frustrating (I've only got moderate restriction but I'll take it!)

Congratulations!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
