Get band on Tuesday, have questions for you all!!

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded on Tuesday the 29th and I am so excited for it? It will be a new day!! I am trying to get ready for my post op diet. I got some carnation Breakfast drinks, some Soup that is just broth and Jello. What kind of Protein Shakes should I be getting? Are they at the grocery store or at like GNC? Plus any advice for me?

For the very first early stage---you will want Protein, yes, but likely clear Protein. You can find options at GNC. They have bullets they are called, they are test tubes with high Protein Shots in them. They also have what I used, which is Zero Carb Isopure. It comes in glass bottles similar to the Sobe drinks on the market--size and shape I mean. It comes in several flavors. To be 100% honest, if I had my choice of anything to drink, they would not have been my choice! BUT when I got to feeling fatigued, and weary, they perked me right up! Then the next stage you can usually go on to the full Protein shake, as well as the Carnation.

You can buy whey protein in GNC, even in Walmart. You can buy it online like from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. If you use unflavored, you can use the sugar free DaVinci (or similar other brands like Torani) syrups in tons of flavors to make you all kinds of shakes! You can also use a couple spoons full of sugar free pudding mix to add flavor---just don't use too much or you end up with pudding not a shake!!! As you progress, you can blend in a spoon or 2 of Peanut Butter for the added protein, and flavor.

Keep your blender handy. It is not of much use the first clear liquid stage--but after that, you can blend lots of things---just be sure to keep it thin for awhile, allow your band to set and heal in a correct position.

Crystal Light freezes into a nice slushie drink that is a bit different from more liquid, and yet when it hits your pouch it is thawed into total liquid.

If there is anything else, feel free to ask. The liquid stages are not easy, there is not a lot of variety. Often times you go from feeling like you don't want anything, and it is a chore to get in the Water, to the next day starving to death! It is not always easy, but it was always worth it!!

Keeping busy, being prepared to walk a LOT!! Keeps you going!

Hope you have an easy uneventful surgery and recovery!!!

Welcome!

Kat

Hi Katie!

Did your doctor give you any suggestions about Protein drinks? I am using Atkin Advantage (make sure it's low carb) and EAS. Whichever Protein Drinks you get, make sure they aren't high in carbs or you could be sabotaging your weight loss.

Otherwise, just follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. Don't get ahead of your prescribed diet and try to eat solids too fast. Eat as much Protein as you can get your hands on (preferable in food), it will help your hunger.

Good luck! I'm not far behind you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
