This is a new creation I came up with. I am trying to spice up my low carb foods a little. This recipe reminds me of tuna Helper without the noodles.

Ingredients:

1 small can of tuna in Water, drained well

1 Tbsp. sour cream

2 Tbsp. milk

1/4 cup shredded cheese (whatever kind you prefer)

Put milk, sour cream, and shredded cheese in a small microwavable bowl and microwave for about 1 to 1&1/2 minutes. Stir until creamy. If it's too thick add a splash more milk, if it's too thin add a little more cheese. Mix in tuna well and enjoy!

I'm kinda confused by a lot of stuff I'm reading on the forum, forgive my question here....

I agree that this recipe sounds delicious. However, isn't this full of saturated fat which is kinda unhealthy, and when you think about it, what caused us to gain weight to start - cheese and sour cream is very calorie dense.

I haven't had the banding yet, but I have visited dietician to get an idea of post banding recipes. I'm not sure this would be on the recommended list. My question really is how hard is it for people to change their diet to healthy and nutritious meals - does the banding help a healthy lifestyle, or does it just mean smaller portions of the previous unhealthy meals.

Thanks (I'm getting confused if this is a good move).

hi Luscious,

everyone pretty much sticks with the plan of eating that works for them. for me (and georgia girl too i believe) it's Atkins / Low Carb.

i dont concern myself with any type of fat content when i am low-carbing it.

banding helps with Portion Control, however, there are several not so good foods that tend to 'slip through' the band quite easily. my suggestion, read posts here and educate yourself as much as possible.

for me, the band was the best thing i did for myself. good luck!

Luscious

Most of time, I try to eat low carb. That works best for me, especially if I am trying to blast through a plateau. Of course, I don't do Atkins all the time, but like Losingjusme, when I do, I don't worry about fat content either. I strictly watch the carbs. Many people have success counting calories, and some eat the same foods as before, just less of it. My advice would be to find what works best for you. My surgeon wants me to eat Protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, then fruit or bread if I have room. Well I rarely have room for much more than my Protein and non-starchy vegetable, so it works good for me.

I agree that eating large quantities of sour cream and cheese isn't generally a good idea, but 1 tbsp of sour cream isn't that bad in my opinion. It only has about 30 cal and 2.5g of fat. It really isn't that bad, especially if you pair it with something like tuna that is pretty low in calories and fat. I think we can enjoy these things in moderation.

I made it with fat free sour cream + 1% milk + 2% cheese. Not unhealthy or high in fat at all.

I tried this again recently ... again with chicken. I added a little extra milk and peas. With tuna it would be like tuna noodle casserole.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
