Gas Feeling or Full Feeling?

Recommended Posts

I am just a week post op. Everytime I drink/eat something I feel incredibly bloated and gassy (in my mind) Could this still be from the post op gas or is this what it feels like to be full with the band? I feel really burpish but cant burp. Am I drinking too fast? I'm wondering will this pass or is this what I am going to feel like forever?

I am the EXACT same as you. I am new so I am not sure if it will last forever or what. I have read alot on here about people burping. It seems to be that about half the people burp all the time (way more than pre-op) and about half cannot burp at all. I am one that cannot burp at all even though I feel like I have to. I take gas-x and that really seems to help the gassy feeling. I am just worried about what to do when I go back to work. LOL

It doesn't seem to be brought on by any particular kind of food. Just anything I eat. Is that the same for you?

Well I'm back at work. The gas-x didn't really do anything for me. I mostly got some of the gas to pass by moving around. And at work, I just walk outside or go to my car for a second, lol. But I'm a week out, I wouldve thought the gas would be gone by now. So now I'm wondering if this is how it feels to be banded.

I'm now 17 days out and I still have trouble burping. After I eat it feels like I have a big bubble stuck in my chest. When I do burp, they are very little burps. Right after surgery, it was more uncofortable then it is now. I'm either getting used to it, or it is getting better. It is kinda funny though, how some people say they could win burping contests now and then some of us cant burp for anything! Weird, huh?

Mia,

Let me share a little habit of mine that may be the root of your problems. I noticed quite quickly that when I drink I have a bad habit of inhaling prior to taking the drink. If you do that it will cause you to swallow air and lead to more discomfort. This is what was causing the problem that you are describing (when it happened to me). So when you are drinking something, pay attention. Let the liquid touch your lips before you drink. See if you do it too because its just something that was habit for me and I didn't think about it.

I noticed today that I did that. I started thinking maybe I am gulping in air before I drink AND I DO! Today I have tried exhaling and then drinking and drinking things MUCH SLOWER and it has greatly helped!! Who knew, man, who knew?!

My surgery is scheduled 2/28/08 and I'm afraid or not waking up. Did you have these fears? How long were you under? From my understanding they don't start the adjustment until 6 weeks after your surgery yet you have already lost 19 pounds after 4 weeks. Am I missing something here? How have you been able to start losing weight so fast?

You know how when you fall asleep at night and you wake up the next morning and it seems like you had just fallen asleep? It's just like that. Even the groggy feeling of waking up is the same. Believe me, you are VERY relaxed! 1st adjustments are done usually from 4 to 6 weeks depending on the physician. My doctor does it at 4 weeks. During that time you are on Clear liquids, then full liquids and then slowly make your way to what are called mushies or blended/soft foods before completing the transition to real food. You are also usually on a pre-op diet where you lose weight as well so it is entirely possibly to lose that much. I have only been on my pre-op diet for a week and a half and have lost 12.5 lbs. So yes, you lose a lot of weight before your first fill.

Im twenty two days out, and yes am still gassy but not as much, and wow I can burp now but not the first few weeks, the feeling of fullness your feeling is swelling from surgery, each day it does get better and than sometimes when you move wrong, or pull something it gets swollen again. My advice is drink alot of fluids and exercise, its gonna take time for our bodies to get back to some kind of normalcy, ok well sort of normalcy. Just be patient and relax into our new way of life, there is a light at the end of this tunnel. I have to believe it, cus this has been the hardest thing i have ever done in my life including delivering three ten lb babies naturally. and twenty seven years of a horrible marriage. Hang in there your not alone!!

Thank you so much for this info. I am 3 days post op and feel constantly full or gassy. I am trying the tips with respect to drinking and i bought some phazyme to help with the gas... I had Reflux pre surgery and i think the clear liquid diet also played a part in heartburn.... 3 days of Clear Liquids can wreak havok on stomach.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
