Weight Watchers as Proof

Recommended Posts

Hello All: This site has been fantastic. I have been getting all my ducks in order since September. I switched insurance companies as of 01/08. I looked at their criteria. They require 6 months "clinically" supervised weight loss. They will take Weight Watchers and/or Jenny Craig, etc. as "clinically supervised". I asked a rep about how I can prove this, she said that the doctor just needed to write that in my report. Has anyone heard of this? I have BCBS of Texas. Any input would be great! Thanks, Dee

From what I understand as long as you have a doctor documenting your progress as you go along and is documenting your weight each month and that you are participating in WW...tell him that you are planning the lap band and that you need DETAILED notes about what youre doing, how many calories youre taking in, what exercieses youre doing ETC DETAILS!!! GOOD LUCK TO YA!

I provided my surgeon's office with a copy of my WW booklet showing my weekly weigh in's plus each time I had gone to my PCP for physicals and things she would ask if I was doing anything to lose weight, and I'd tell her WW, exercise at the rec center, etc. so yes, WW log plus PCP doctor notes is a good combo but I don't think a WW booklet with weights is enough.

I did Jenny Craig for six months last year but wasn't going to the doctor each month to document my progress so I cannot submit it to my insurance. If your insurance requires a six month "physician supervised" diet then you must do the diet and see your doctor every month to discuss it. Then you will submit copies of the actual doctor's notes to your insurance not anything from WW.

I wasn't thinking about the surgery when I went to JC, so now that my insurance requires this I have to start a new diet for six months.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
