Recommended Posts

Hey guys well I am due to start the liquid diet on Friday... I'm going to the surgeons office to getthe shakes and some othe supplement the coordinator told me about. But I just said ok I will start on Monday. Because this weekend I really feel like binge eating cause I don't wann cheat on my diet and I don't wanna F the pre-op diet up so my liver won't be in the way.I am so afraid of complications. So I wanna do everything by the book.:wink2: But I wanna give myself this one last hoorah. Like drug addicts on intervention before they go to rehab they wanna get high one last time. And that's how I feel. OMG I just realized it I am a food addict. Damn ... no wonder I am 325! I wanna lose this 25 pounds pre-op so I can atleast countdown from 299 once I am banded. I just wanted to share and she if anyone else is going through this too. I am to be banded Feb 6th.:Dancing_biggrin: Is 25 pounds a little far fetched. Or should I start Saturday for the best results? What do you think? Thanks if you read this whole thing. Lots of LOVE APPLES!

I have two opposing views here and I can tell I will be facing the same situation once I am scheduled.

You could either just go crazy one last time, having that "last supper" so to speak. Get it out of your system,,,,,B U T

Would it really be out of your system?

You had your revelation about being a food addict. If you didn't have your "last supper" you would have your victory over the internal battle.

If you can't stop it this time, will you be able to when it's most critical?

More posters will come. Some probably had your dillemna. I'm surious to read how they handled it and how they felt about it afterwards.

Whichever you choose, GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Go for it girl - I gained 5 lbs between my 1st consultation and my pre-op visit

eat all the unhealty foods that you want this weekend - say good bye to your old friends that were killing you - say i loved you while it lasted now it's time for me to move on - tell them that once you get banded you might visit now and again - but that the relationship is OVER - your new lover is going to be healthy food - not all the junk - Enjoy....

I only had to be on pre-op for 8 days - so can't tell you about that

Just follow your pre-op and leave it at that...

Take it from me, that last meal way of thinking does not get you through. I had my surgery on the 16th and before I started my two week liquid diet I did the same thing you did. As a matter of fact, I even scheduled my surgery to not mess with my "eating days". After three days on that Protein diet I wanted food! And that last meal thinking came right back to me. I told myself just one more meal, it will be ok. So I went to Subway and got a six inch club sauce on the side, brought it home put it in a bowl and cut it up with a knife like a salad and proceeded to eat slowwwwly. It tasted great, but I felt terrible.

Just remember that quote "Nothing taste as good as being thin feels". And when those cravings start calling you go brush your teeth.

Good luck,

My last day I ate my normal Breakfast, I don't think I had any lunch but for dinner hubby and I had a nice juicy steak, baked potato, and steamed broccoli. It was great, I did not stuff myself and I know I can have it all again when I am on solid foods. It was delicious!

I did not want to stuff myself with junk, I am not a big junk food eater. I do love certain things tho, as we all do.

The 'last supper' mentality is bad bad.

It's NOT TRUE.

After being banded, and after your post-op diet, and before good restriction you will be able to eat like you did pre-band.

So don't flub your diet now with the thought that you'll never eat again. It's just not so

Eat whatever you want before your pre-op diet but make sure you stay on the pre-op diet for as long as they tell you too. But ANYTHING should be game before that!

APPLES, PICK JUST ONE THING THAT YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO MISS HAVING ALOT AND EAT A SERVING OF IT. THEN GO EAT SOMETHING THAT YOU LIKE THAT IS HEALTHY FOR YOU. IF YOU WANT TO LOOSE THAT 25 LBS BEFORE BANDING THERE IS NO BETTER TIME THAN TO START NOW!!! THE MORE YOU PIG OUT THIS WEEKEND THE EASIER IT WILL BE ON MONDAY WHEN YOU GO TO liquids. I WAS ON LIQUIDS FOR TWO WEEKS PRE-OP AND I WAS TERRIFIED!! BUT I STARTED CUTTING BACK A WEEK BEFORE AND I WAS SURPRISED THAT I WASN'T STARVING AT ALL WHEN I WENT ON THE LIQUIDS. MY DR. ALOTED 4 HIGH Protein BOOSTS, 1/2 CUP BEEF broth, AND 1 SERVING OF CARNATION INSTANT Breakfast A DAY AND I HARDLY EVER WAS ABLE TO GET ALL OF IT DRANK IN ONE DAY. AND NOT BECAUSE I DIDN'T NORMALLY EAT PLENTY, BUT I AS WELL WANTED TO BE DOWN BY SURGERY. KEEP THINKING POSITIVE AND DON'T PSYCH YOURSELF OUT ABOUT THE liquid THING IT WILL ALL GO FINE :)

I had the farewell to food tour. I highly recommend it. If I could do it again I would add bread with dipping oils to it. That's only because post-op I haven't been able to eat bread, and I'm 4 months post-op. I had everything else that I love in my tour (mostly all carb based-yes I'm a recovering carb addict). It seems my band doesn't like bread, Pasta or rice, all of my old vices. I have yet to find a new food vice, hmm maybe Water but it's not a vice.

If you want your last goodbye to food weekend then by all means take it.

Persoanlly I have NEVER been able to eat like I did pre-band since being banded, even when I needed a fill.

I quoted catalystmb specifically because of the point she made about whether it would be out of your system. Can an alcoholic go on a drinking binge before they get sober to get it out of their system, or a drug addict? Nope, that ain't how it works.

HOWEVER, the good news is, you WILL be able to eat food again, just not for a little while. And not as much.

And, I was banded on Feb. 5 last year, and I started my pre-op diet 10 days prior to surgery. It was a clear liquid sugar free diet, with 1/2 cup of plain yogurt or cottage cheese per day. No Protein shakes, or anything like that. I only lost 11 lbs on my pre-op diet, and I started at 285. I'm not saying that losing 25 lbs on a pre-op diet is impossible, but it's not really probable.

Oh, and I started my farewell to food tour on the day I got my surgery date, which was December 26. So I ate myself to oblivion and back for a whole month before surgery. Now I see how stupid that was, because none of the foods that I had in that month have really been off limits for me. I haven't even wanted some of them.

Good luck, and enjoy your last hurrah if you must...but no matter what, FOLLOW YOUR SURGEON'S POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS! That is more important that ANYTHING else for the longevity of your band and your long term health.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
