This was my 3rd shot.. Aetna turned me down in Aug 07 and Oct 07 because they didn't like the Doctors note about the diet. Picked up United the first of the year and the approved me. It's been almost a year since i started this so I'm glad it's almost here. One has bump in the road. I may get bumped to Friday morning from Thursday afternoon. thats no big deal as long at it gets done and all goes well...

Dr. Ren is great. She did a family members band and the have been doing great.

I think the morning might be better for you. I don't know if I would like waiting around until the afternoon to be banded.

Well I made it... Dr. Fielding @ NYU did my surgery friday morning and I got home this afternoon. I did need the pain meds but that took care of most of the pain. I can tell each day will be better. I'm glad I made it and look forward to what's to come.. I'll post more about what everything in a few days...

Hey, I was banded with you guys on Friday. How long are you on clear liquids? Are you on clear liquids? And when do you move to pureed foods. I'm supposed to move to purred foods today, but I think that I will call the nutritionist first to check it out. Glad everyone is doing fine. I've only had to take pain meds twice since I got home on Sat am. Usually at night after the long day.

Have a good day,

Amy

Wow...that's quick to move to mushies. These doctors all vary so much it's hard to keep track of what we're suppsed to do next. I was banded to 17th, did clear liquids for 2 days, back to Optifast (3/day) with a creamy/strained Soup option, and start mushies at 2 weeks post-op which is this Thursday for me....YAY.

glad to hear you're recovering really well from your band on Friday...that's wonderful! Don't try to do too much for the first week....let your body heal. My port in the only sore area still....wondering when that will stop bugging me? Probably never right?

Oh well....

They have me on thinned out shakes, clear liquids and Crystal light for the first few days and then after about a week i can try some Soups put in the food Process. So far so good.

I'm going to take a short walk today and rest for a lot of the day. Going back to work Thursday or Friday so i want to be ready for that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
