Kel my doctor said wait 2 years because some skin will form back around your bones but not sure when you have that much weight to lose. I do know my gf got her surgery covered by insurance because of repeated yeast infections and a hernia that developed because of the weight/skin pulling on her stomach. I would try for that!!

good luck keep me posted

Mandy,

I would say it is never too late. The lap band is only a tool if she is using correctly and getting her fills etc... she should do fine!!

I have been very lucky. I am down to 250 (home scale) I am 1 month out with no fill. I eat one full meal (if you can call it that) I basically living on protien drinks, Soup, scrabbled eggs, cheese and deli meats, cream of wheat and oatmeal, tuna salad and Beans of course (homemade) trying to get in the required protien. if I eat more than 1/4 a cup of any given food, I get bloated and have to burp about 20 times to get some relief. My grandkids cant wait till I finish eating so I can let it rip and their yelling "wow, gramma thats a good one" I can live with this feeling for now, but I'm sure it will get old fast.

I think I will try eating 6 very small meals per day and see if that helps with the bloating

but who's complaining?

I am almost 7 weeks out. I started with a really low BMI so maybe I am not the best example. I have lost 10 lbs, no pre op diet. I had my first fill and only felt restriction for a few days. I have not lost any weight since my first fill which was 1.8cc in a 4 cc band. I am going to get another fill in a week or two, still waiting to see if this first one kicks in. With all of that being said, I lost the most of my 10 lbs the first few weeks post op. After the liquid stage was over I was able to eat a little too comfortably so the weight loss stopped.

I got a fill every month except for December since I have been banded.

If I was hungry between meals, I got a fill.

If I quit losing weigh, I got a fill.

Below is a graph of my weight loss. My fills are marked with red circles. The horizontal red line represents my goal weight to achieve my final goal after one year.

I am currently ahead of where I need to be to hit my goal weight by my 1 year bandversary. Thank God for this band - it has truly been a blessing!

I lost my weight immediately after surgery and have been losing ever since. There was a two week period right after Christmas where I did not lose but I made up for that the following week by losing 6 pounds.

I have stuck strictly to my program and eat 3 ounces at meals, 3 times a day no Snacks and I drink two Protein shakes a day mid morning and mid afternoon. If I want a bite of cookie I have it, but only a bite not the whole cookie.

I work out 5-6 days a week, and I have increased the intensity of these workouts, I am beginning a Body Pump class this Friday to being my strength training.

I love my Water aerobics classes, and I look forward to them, although they make me tired....LOL

I am anxious to see my surgeon on the 7th and see what he says, I think he will be quite please with me.

I HAVE NO FILL......I have no hunger, and I am thrilled beyond words with my BAND!!!

Excellent job wombat!!! You are my idol.

I lost a lot of weight on the liquid and mushy stages. I kept the calories way down (under 1000 per day) to achieve this. Then, when returning to regular food, thanks to some restriction, I didn't gain it back! :frown:

After that the weight loss went to 1 to 2 lbs per week. When I hit 40 lbs weight loss, I hit a wall and didn't lose until getting to 3.2 cc's in my 4 cc band. Then I was in bandster hell for a few weeks, but it got me started again. I've had a .5 cc un-fill and am hungry, but will get a small fill next week which hopefully will get me to my sweet-spot. I feel well enough to include walking in my day, and I count calories (never to exceed 1200)

Aren't you sweet *blush*

I only started exercising in the last month. I don't like to sweat and mess up my hair & makeup lol. When I belonged to a gym I would seriously do my hair and put on all my makeup AND jewelry.

I try to keep my calories between 600-800. At least once a week (sometimes two) I will get closer to 1000. I don't know why I've convinced myself that I have to get this done in a year. I live this stuff - researching, counting calories, weighing myself - almost obsessed (not good). I should channel that energy into working out :rolleyes2:

How close are you to your goal? I know the weight gets harder and harder to get off because each pound packs a bigger punch! You are doing great - when else have we been able to lose weight and NOT put it back on?!?! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this band :)

Hugs

I am not the majority - but I have lost something every week since surgery - there were 3 weeks where it was only 1/2 lbs each week - but it was a loss and not a gain and this was during the holiday - I love me & by band - I did the majority of the work by eating healthy and exercising and the band helped by controling portions...

It's doing it's job and I am doing mine...:rolleyes2:

I am 7 days out from surgery and have lost 14 pounds (from my weight on surgery day.) Although I know the weight loss is going to slow down or even gain a little, I am extremely excited right now!

I always encourage new bandsters to use the band as a catalyst for change. Those who do all they can to follow the post-op diet and the "bandster" eating guidelines right from the beginning, even though they may have to struggle with hunger, often do better in the long run than those who wait for restriction to kick in to do the work for them.

Most people who go through surgery to lose weight are motivated (at least at first) to do the right things, because they feel this is their "last shot" at being healthy and thinner. As long as they can tough it out for those first few weeks until they start getting fills, then they are even further motivated by the weight loss. Then, at about the time in traditional dieting (2-3 months out), when you're ready to throw in the towel, you finally get "good" restriction.

So, use that early momentum, follow the doc's orders, eat healthy, and *most* people will lose weight right from the get go (which your poll bears out). Then, adequate restriction will help with the bulk of your weight loss journey, and *exercise* will take you all the way to goal, and help you stay there!

(And to answer your question, I lost 25 lbs. in the first 3 weeks, and 108 lbs. to goal in 9 months.)

Well Tami if your philosophy is accurate then I am on the right path. I figure that if I can throw myself into this and do everything I'm supposed to do then by the time I get restriction half the battle will have been won. So far I am on track. I've been on my pre-op low carb diet for 1-1/2 weeks and have lost 12.5 lbs. My surgery goal is 20 lbs. If I can lose more that will be great. I have begun to exercise. I expect, between my pre-op preparation and my post op diet that I should lose at least 30 lbs right away. Then I will really have to work like I did pre-op while waiting for my first fill (4 weeks after surgery). I know it will be difficult and a learning process, but I am determined and highly motivated.

Thanks for the reaffirmation!

Same here, except I started losing BEFORE surgery. I lost 14lbs on the 10 day pre-op diet and haven't looked back since! I've been very fortunate - I've been losing very consistently and much quicker than I even expected. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
