What is "Bandster Hell", people refer to it and I don't know what that is. I think it's this first post op week when you cannot eat any food and you are hungry all the time. Is that it? Or do I have something esle to look forward too:redface: Diane

HI Diane,

I have no idea! Although it feels a little hellish when things aren't working the same they used to!

To be honest, I've only been a little hungry in the mornings and was quickly fixed by a few sips of my Optifast Breakfast. I've actually had to remind myself that I need to have something!

Well I am not sure either, but I will say this about my band experience so far.

Pre-Opt liquid Hell, Post Opt I can't get anything down Hell, Post Opt liquid Hell, now Post Opt Mushy Hell.

I think Bandster Hell refers to the whole post-op period until your first fill. Most specifically when you've gained your hunger back fully and you're eating semi-normal food again and you feel like you can eat the same as you did pre-band and you don't really have much restriction. That definitely does not negate how we're feeling as we go through these few weeks on liquids/pureed/mushies though!

Bandsters hell is what I've been going through the last 3+ weeks. Definitely the period where you no longer have restriction and can eat anything and everything and all that good work done in the first 6 weeks or so looks like going out the door. Lucky I only put on very little which should easily fall off now that I've had my 2nd fill.

OK, well if's that's all it is, I think I can deal with it. I'm hoping when I see the Dr. this morning for my post op visit he will let me have Malto-Meal or oatmeal. I'm not trying to eat "bad" stuff, just something in my stomach would help. I will let you know. I thought maybe I should go in wearing a spoon or fork around my neck so he'll feel sorry for me. 9 days without chewing something is a first for me!

Most people are on liquids for 2 weeks or more. I was 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks mushies. That's when I lost most of my weight. Hopefully things will get moving again after today's fill. Good luck during this period.

Wow and I haven't lost anything in the liquid/mushy after surgery phase. I think my metabolism is in shut down mode, which always happened when I was trying to diet. I am still having midabdomen pain if I stretch, so aside from walking, and its been too damn cold here to walk much, I haven't exercised either.

I figure that I do need to eat more at this point to jump start the metabolism.

I was amazed at how much I lost in the first 6 weeks. Everyone is different with their loss but eventually most people get their weight off.

It starts when you get you appetite back after surgery (from a few days to a week or so) and ends when you get restriction.

I like the idea of hanging a fork or spoon around your neck - but somehow think that my Dr. would just not buy it!! I know that it is tedious but I sure hope that my success on the pre-op in managing hunger with the Protein shakes continues! I have to be optimistic here! Banding on Friday so time will tell..........

I also feel that mushies would be a blessing at this point! I actuall look forward to cottage cheese!

Hang in there - just remember why you are doing this.......for YOU!!

bandster Hell is different for different people. I've seen people say that having to eat cold Soup is Bandster Hell. I never had Bandster Hell in the classic sense because except for one day, I was never hungry post-op.

So for me, Bandster Hell is when I'd doubled over the sink praying my stick will come unstuck.

It probably has different definitions for different people. For me it was the two day pre-op period and the first 10 days after surgery, when I could only have Protein Shakes, broth and Jello. I just couldn't choke down any more vile broth. I was dying for some yogurt or cottage cheese or oatmeal. I NEEDED my mushies!!!! Fortunately, I went in for my post-op, and got the approval to start with soft foods.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
