Is this RESTRICTION

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone...I want to know if its normal to have trouble with solid foods 3 wks after a fill? I can keep liquids, soft foods, Soups down. When it comes to pretty much anything else I can eat like two bites and it seems like its struck and I usually throw up. Is this normal restriction or am I too tights...:redface::)

Hard to tell. How big of bites are you taking, what are you eating, and how much are you eating in what amount of time? If two bites is too much, what happens after one bite? Do you feel anything when you eat non-solids, or does it go right through? Etc.

I think for the most part I try to take smaller sized bits...When I eat solids I also get those noises...My dr called it the Water cooler effect. I think I m following the directions on how to eat. Any thoughs????

Oh, gurgling. That happens, especially when you're not that far out. Mine have pretty much gone away except for when I'm stuck. I would suggest paying attention to how it works at different times of the day. Me - for example - I'm just darn tight in the early day, that's my "sweet spot" so I've learned to avoid most solids until early evening. If you can get down liquids without a problem or discomfort, "too tight" doesn't come straight to mind... I would tend to think it's more a matter of eating behavior or learning your own restriction patterns. Maybe try starting off with some hot Soup, and then see if you can do a single bite of something solid. Make it a very small bite, make sure it's chewed thoroughly. Wait 5 minutes. If that bite still feels ok, try another.

Sounds like good restriction to me. Make sure that you're chewing any solid food to mush when you eat. Then wait a minute between bites before taking another TINY bite and chewing it to mush, too. Yes, restriction can kick in 3 weeks after the fill. I've read that happening to a lot of people. I hope my fill tomorrow is more effective than my first one was. I'd like to be where you are at. I've heard it recommended that if you PB, that you should finish the day on liquids to let things settle down.

Sometimes I get stuck with the first bite or two. I have to leave the plate, walk around and come back to it 15 or 20 minutes later. Eating slowly is the key for me, and it's not something i do naturally. Even if I remember to take tiny bites, i still shovel the bites in one after another, and that doesn't work. It's all a relearning process of breaking bad old habits and getting into new, good ones. I'm two weeks out from a fill and I still have trouble with anything more solid than chili.

It sounds like good restriction to me. I would say you are okay if you can get mushies down. When eating solids chewing is the key. If I don't chew well it is painful. I chew until it is mush and then chew some more just to be safe. I also swallow tiny bits at a time even with my small bites.

If you can't eat solids and it is bothering you then get a slight unfill. I think I will always have to be able to eat solids to be satisfied. I don't mind a few days of mushies but then I need to go back to solids. That is why the band is so great. It can be adjusted to fit all of us.

I just had this problem and have went back to get an unfill and it has made a world of difference...I was having trouble getting Water down comfortably and it is so nice to take a drink of water and have it go completely down! I have lost 35 pounds since my surgery 11/27/07 and i already feel like a new woman!! If you are having trouble, talk to your doc and go for the unfill....just a little bit will make a difference! I want to be able to eat my grilled chicken and veggies when we go out(at least part of it anyway) with out having to throw up! Hope this helps!

I had the same problem after my second fill . at this stage some people can tolerate it and eat a soft diet , I however did not find the comfortable for me . So i had to get a slight unfill as it sounds like your doing.

I have discovered if i think i need an unfill I probably need to just call the doc and get one. The first time I needed one I waited WAY to long to call.

What is uncomfortable for one person may not be for the next .

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
