Hi all. So glad I found this place. I had my last consult today and everybody says I'm healthy enough for surgery. So why do I feel so sick? Hee hee--Suddenly I'm in a panic. I found the chat room ok and they helped. But due to medicare rules I've got to go about 2 and a half hours away when I have the surgery (also no date set as of yet--the docs office says they'll set it as soon as Medicare ok's it, about 2-3 weeks they say once all the paperwork is in. But I realized at 4:30 this morning that I've never actually talked to anyone who has had it done. My imagination is running overtime of course. All of the warnings my surgeon told me about back in the beginning are rolling around in my brain. Of course I can't remember what the stats are except that somewhere inside I'm sure it's not as bad as I think. Better for sure than what I can expect if I don't do it, what with all of the lovely problems my weight is causing.

Ok. My first rant. My hubby will be proud of me. I'm happy I found this place. This moring I was thinking about calling the whole thing off. But I feel better now.

Hi Joan

I am going through the same thing you are. I am also in NY and having the surgery done in Cooperstown NY. I have all the same fears and then there are times I can't wait to get it done. The nervousness is terrible. I wish it was over.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
