Hi Everyone. I need reassurance....badly! Please help!

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since 1/18 (about four days). The pain is absolutely tolerable but the problem is that I am sooooooooo nauseous at almost all times. I am on a prescription anti-nausea medicine (Zofran) which helps but does not quell the nausea. I am also on Prilosec and will be for one month. I am nauseous and often dry heaving/salivating throughout the day on and off. I am terrified of flipping or damaging the placement of my band! But my queasies are out of control!

Please tell me it will get better!

Please tell me I didn't make a mistake!!! (On top of everything, I am self-pay.)

I hope and pray it gets better than this. I am really upset, close to tears. I hope you pros will have some experiences to share and some advice. When the nausea leaves me, I know I'll be so much better but it is just lingering and lingering....help!!

THANK YOU!

Hi Shalom,

Shalom back at you, I am Jewish up here in Mt. Pleasant Michigan.

I think that you are nauseous because of the manipulation of your tummy insides. I get very nauseous after fills. I am not a doctor but this should pass.

Also if you are taking the liquid codeine for pain that could cause It too.

You have done the right thing, you just are hurting and probably a little scared right now, but with each day you will feel better, and the lbs will melt away. it will be OK. Use this forum we are your support system, there is not a feeling you are having that probably someone else has not gone through.

Good Luck and welcome!

Janine

Janine, I thank you for your time and your feedback. I sure hope you are right. The nausea is crippling, yet my pain is almost gone! I just hope I did the right thing and that the nausea will pass, weight loss will follow and this will all be successful! You are right...I am a bit scared, I think. It's nice to know you guys are out there for support. Thank you!!

{{hugs}} and prayers for you!!!

I took my pain meds every 4 hours and slept and slept and slept. Is it possible that you are a little allergic to the one you are on? Maybe call and geta different prescription. At least the doc should be able to give some other thoughts about what you can do.

Make sure you are resting and drinking liquids.

I get a tad nauseous with a fill as well; something about the squeezing of the tummy.

i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WENT TO SEE MY SURGEON BECAUSE I WAS VOMITING A LOT...

For me it was the pain meds and the anti-nausea meds that made me so nauseous to begin with

It will pass and you will be fine.. BUT IF IT IS TO MUCH FOR YOU TO TOLERATE I WOULD ASK YOU SURGEON... just to make sure everything is okay

WELCOME TO BANDLAND!!!

These are the side effects for Prilosec. My experience with it was not good, hope it isn't the cause of your pain.

Questions and Answers on Prilosec OTC (omeprazole)

What are some possible side effects of Prilosec OTC?

Although side effects from Prilosec OTC are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

headache

diarrhea

Constipation

upset stomach

vomiting

stomach pain

It is quite possible that the pain meds and or Prilosec are making you sick. I can not take pain meds for this reason. Hope you feel better soon. Donna

I'd suggest you talk to your dr. You shouldn't be having that much trouble and maybe he/she can offer some alternatives. I had just two episodes of nausea...right after anesthesia and then later in the night when I moved my bed up/down too quickly. They don't want you heaving. So, make a phone call....take the worry out of it.

YOU DID THE RIGHT THING!

I was banded exactly a month before you and for most of the first two weeks I thought I had made a horrible mistake. I too was nauseous and miserable. At day 11 or 12 I realized I was starting to feel better, by day 14 I was feeling much better and by day 30 I was pretty much back to my old self!

You will get through this... I promise! One thing that helped me with my nausea was to stop my prescription pain meds and switch to tylenol. Within a day or so the nausea had passed.

Hang in there.... several people in my support group have reported the same problem. You have a new friend, your band! They disrupted your body during the surgery and it is just letting you know. Take it one step at a time.... be good to yourself and allow you body to accommodate it's new partner. Don't be discouraged..... your not alone and you will get lots of support and good advice here......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
