Lots of people use the Carnation Instant B'fast, but I do not think it has the same amount of Protein that some of the more expensive drinks have. In the first few weeks post op, some people cannot drink a lot and the only way to get the necessary Protein in is to drink something with a high protein count.

If a person is only on liquids, then the $$ they would have spent on "normal" food can be used to supplement their diet with one or two bottles of the more expensive higher Protein Drinks.

Slbindc, I'm on day 7 of my pre-op. I've lost 15lbs!!! It's a good thing I don't use Cocoa Butter lotion. Keri doesn't tempt me, but watching tv is horrible. There's some kind of food commercial every few minutes. Good luck to us all..... I'm going to try the Iso Pure. I'm not much into shakes and smoothies but I've been knocking them down for the sake of the diet. It has worked.

15 lb - wow - that is excellent!

I'm down nearly 10 so far and it's been 6 days. I've surprised myself and have really stuck to it - Optifast shakes and Soup and sugarfree popsicles. Most of the time I haven't been really hungry, but it does get tiring eating the same thing over and over. On the other hand, no cooking!

Interesting... I started my 2 week pre-op liquid diet on 1/24..2 weeks exactly from my surgery date (2/7). I started drinking the Carnation Instant b'fast about a month ago to get used to the taste. It was actually more convenient for me in the mornings before work.(had more time for hair and makeup since all I did was take the drink with me on the way). so when the diet started I THOUGHT I was mentally ready. My doctor recommended various Protein shakes I could choose from. I choose to drink the Slim-fast Optima. less calories more Protein than the rest on the list.

1st day= awesome very full and very energetic.

2nd day= VERY nauseated! very tired had to munch of ice chips to settle my tummy.

3rd day= changed it up a bit. according to my food list I could have Jello and Tomato Soup. so I had carnation drink, 1 can of slim-fast (cappuccino), 1 cup of Progresso Tomato Soup, and 1 cup of strawberry/kiwi sugarfree/fatfree Jello.< /p>

results of the 3rd day... felt awesome!!... I've lost 4 lbs in process and I've only started in the 4th day!!

Don't get me wrong I've been hungry but the results are awesome..... I think I'll stay on this plan until my last 7 days then I'll go back to just the shakes and Water ..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
