Anyone have issues with GOUTsince banding?

Recommended Posts

Grace, I am so sorry for your gout attack--OMG it is SO painful!!!

I have not had another attack since that first attack in January, but here's how I've changed my life drastically to combat it:

1. I bought the cherry juice concentrate and take 1 tablespoon daily. Originally I started with the black cherry juice concentrate from my local drugstore (back in the pharmacy area!) for $14.99 a pint bottle. I then progressed to buying a gallon from the internet of the tart cherry juice for around $50 which includes shipping--not as sweet but it still does the job.

2. I now drink 3 20-ounce bottles of Water a day, in addition to my other liquid intake, i.e. coffee, juice, iced tea. This flushes my system nicely.

3. I limit my intake of legumes to twice a week. I KNOW it was the Beans aka legumes in my case (because I know that's ALL I was eating for protein).

By making these three changes I have not had another gout attack since. If I start to have any pain in that area again, I up my cherry juice intake to 2 tablespoons daily.

Call me crazy, but I think we all have to find the answers for our individual bodies!! :incazzato:

Well i don't know if i have gout but after reading this maybe i do! Ever since getting the surgery i can barely put my weight on my left foot when i wake up. It really hurts in the plant of the foot and it gets better throughout the day.

I just thought it was another symptom of being overweight.

I have been very pleased since the band. I have only had two flare ups. One was right after sugery and then a few months later. I do watch the spices and some foods that have caused me problems in the past. Iam also on Allpurnol and take it everyday. Other wise I was having the attacks more often.

I had my first gout attack in college 10 years ago...too much meat and beer coupled with rigorous football work-outs. I've taken colchicine and allupurinol ever since.

Some of my thoughts:

Rapid weight loss which usually means the body is feeding on its own muscle puts strain on the kidneys and causes gout flare up. The breakdown of human muscle tissue (strength training) can cause flares so take your time starting a work-out regimen.

Atkins Diet is an absolute no-no.

As soon as you notice (and will once you have more than one attack you'll notice the first signs) the gout coming on, start your Water gorging and reduction in animal Protein asap.

Beer is gas on the gout fire.

It gets worse at night.

Sorry for the lack of a better phrase but keep your pee clear...lots of Water.< /p>

Keep your salt down.

Aleve or ibuprohen during flare-ups with your regular precriptions.

In summary, drastic changes in your health tend to cause flare ups so offset these with lots water and ease into all your weight-loss tasks.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
