I actually wrote a paper on Thales' Water elementus, for an interdisciplinary class I took. It was an evolutionary reconstruction using his writings on water paired with current (at the time) medicinal and biological knowledge of the human body.

I would love to read that paper if you happen to have a copy on hand. I did my Jr. project in High School on the role of Sophism in early democracy. I focused on the cultural and psychological role Sophism played in Athenian democracy.
