I just thought of something else! If you are having weakness/heaviness in your legs and arms, it could be a postassium deficiency. Your areas of concern are pretty specific and may have to do with your current diet. It is easy to be deficient in important nutrients - and a potassium deficiency can be harmful, as can other mineral deficiencies. Balance is important in your system. It might be a good idea to see your doctor for blood work to determine if your levels are good.

Walking. I am supposed to be walking.

But my legs feel SO weak after climbing up a flight of 14 stairs in my house that I have to flop on the couch.

Before my procedure 2 1/2 weeks ago I was lively and active.

Did you fellow 60 + members also find yourself with weak legs and muscles after your procedure.?

Are you taking any Rx for cholesterol??

Sounds like symptoms of side effects of some statins.

"Since the drug companies that manufacture statins have become aware of the incidence of serious side effects, they added a warning to statin advertising that was not present in the earliest advertising. This warning states, “Unexplained muscle pain and weakness could be a sign of a rare but serious side effect and should be reported to your doctor right away.” People who take statin drugs need to heed this warning immediately because in extreme cases the side effects of statins can be fatal.

Muscle pain and muscle weakness are two of the main side effects of statin drugs. While muscle pain and muscle weakness sound ordinary enough, due to the manner in which statin side effects can act in the body they are potentially dangerous side effects of statin use. Another is memory loss. Anyone who is taking statin drugs for any reason should be aware of these side effects and their symptoms. The medical establishment recommends that anyone who suspects they are experiencing any of the possible statin side effects consult with their medical professional."

I have a suspicion it may be potassium(although I have been eating potato every day since the mushies began.)

I am used to drinking OJ every morning and am not doing that...stopped because of the acidity.

Today I am going to the Mall to shop for Fathers' Day and

will get some OJ if my legs feel weak when I am out for a while.

Those statins are BAD BAD BAD! I am glad I am off and my cholesterol is under control now.

Hi Everyone,

I guess you can call me the ultimate lurker because I rarely post but I see the post quite often.

Yesterday my doctor informed me that I was losing the weight on my own as my band is unfilled. I have never had a fill since my surgery on January 16, 2009.

I eat a cup of food 3X a day without Snacks. I add my fruits to my Protein Drink.< /p>

That is wonderful. However, I bet the band is playing some part in your w/l if you couldn't do it before.

If I may ask...why did you never bother to get a fill? and..are you considering getting it removed?

You are absolutely right about the band playing a part in my weight loss. It certainly gave me the jump I needed to get going.

My doctor said as long as I am losing the weight there was not a need for a fill. I will not have the band removed as I am sure I will need a fill sooner or later. I am to request a fill when I have not lost any weight for 2 weeks.

I feel so much better as I no longer have sleep apnea, I can walk much better with my bum knees and I stopped taking my BP med (Ace inhibitor) however, I still take the Water pill to prevent Fluid build up. My workout is much easier and a friend insist the Soy Protein I use mixed with the no sugar Carnation Breakfast drink, apples and a banana is speeding up my metabolism somewhat.

I am loyal to avoid eating junk food and fried foods. Haven't had any since before my surgery this past January.

Toyster. What great news that you found your sweet spot without a fill. I suggest the band is helping you because the surgeon probably made your band tight enough when he installed it, you don't need a fill. Whatever, congratulations on your success.

I had my band on May 20 this year and I have had just the opposite reaction. I do not know how much weight I have lost, but I feel much lighter and more active.

I hope nothing is wrong.

Kentucky wildcat. seems to me you are having the normal feelings. It is the fills that you get that makes it more difficult to consume less food. Go slowly in your fills give a few weeks for the fill to work (understand that in some it can take up to 4 weeks). Eventually you will feel comfortable with your leve. You are barely starting off, so give yourself time to heal.

Welcome to bandland.

I'm new and should have been more clear. I was responding to the person singinintherain about heaviness in her/his legs.

Oh, KY! That was funny. I think many of us were wondering why you were worried... I'm glad you are feeling well - that is such a great result of being banded, it's not unusual to start feeling better in just a matter of weeks. I hope Singin' is doing better today...

Yes Phyllser & everyone,

I made it back. Thank you for asking.

There's Good news & there's Good news.

I have not been losing for the past 2-3 weeks but have been losing "inches", but have started losing again. Even better news is I am now OFF all my blood pressure meds AND all my Diabetic meds, also cut my cholesterol meds in half. I have my next appt with my family Doc in Sept and "might" be able to get off the rest of my meds. It sure is strange to get up in the morning and all I have to take is my Vitamins, etc.

I’m now down 47 lbs. I see my post op-Doc (Dr. Low) on June 30th. I’m not sure if she will give me a fill or not. Well see.

I see everyone is doing very good.

Keep up the good work,

Don

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
