OK, I've been to see the surgeon, been to see the Nurse Practitioner, have read the Sewell book on Lap Band, and have hung around the forums for awhile. I"m looking at surgery in late May, early June 2010. I'm a busy guy during the long days I work (68 and still going strong) and I would like to ask this: How much is this band going to interfere with my daily chores? I mean, is it like a constant problem you're dealing with as far as overeating, vomiting, PBing etc., or does it eventually become a part of your everyday life that pretty much goes along without a lot of attention?

OK, I've been to see the surgeon, been to see the Nurse Practitioner, have read the Sewell book on LAP-BAND®, and have hung around the forums for awhile.

No, the band will not interfere with your daily living. It will become part of it. You will make your decisions and food choices based on what you can and can not tolerate. Just don't try to eat something "new" when you're out and about. Introduce foods at home. You may get some benefit reading about my journey at my blog- perhaps information about how the process went for me will help you "settle in". You can find it at Sandi's Banded Living — My Lapband Weight Loss Success Story

I was working from home 4 days after surgery and back int he office at a week. Ninety five percent of the time I have no problem with eating foods..The other 5% of the time it is usually my fault for not chewing horoughly, taking too big a bite, or "trying" to eat a food that I know doesn't work for me any more.

Let me know what you think!

Well if you are like me you have decided that you have made the best decision you can make and now go with the flow .And yes it pretty well is just getting on with your life but feeling full a lot earlier than before when eating ,and with a bit of luck not feeling very hungry very often. After reading all the bad things that can happen and problems people have had, it is really great that I feel so normal . You can eat all the worng things you know, like ice creams and chocolate and othe fattening stuff. The band lets them through very easily so don't be fooled that you won't have to be a good student of the right foods and a sensible eater . I was 69 when I got mine done and the first few months were a bit difficult . I kept thinking I didn't need to stay on the mushy diet and broke the rules and had to regurgitate but since that stage has passed everything feels normal and I slowly lose weight.

On TV tonight, the news revealed a study that shows high fat or sugary foods trigger the same areas of the brain that cocaine, heroin and other illiegal drugs do. The study does not know why some people become addicted to high fat/sugary foods as yet.

At last proof, scienceis now coming out what a lot of us have known for a lifetime. We are addicted to certain foods and eating them makes us want more.

Thank goodness for my band as I am one that is addicted to high fat foods and to restrain myself is so much easier.

After a lifetime of being told it is all my fault and I just have to exercise and the weight will come off. I feel such a relief to know that it is not all my fault. That I have an addiction. Easier to fight when you know what to fight. That my body is in fact fighting me every step of the way. Mybe now my GP will stop being like a broken record and start being a bit more constructive.

After 67 years of being obese, I am thankful that the younger children prone to being fat will have a fighting chance and not have their self esteem destroyed by the "only have to exercise crowd".

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
