Congrats, oldone. Now the learning begins. After my first month being banded, I feel so healthy and proud to have made the decision in favor of health. The band will help me and you.

well done Old One! Glad it all went so well. You'll be feeling great in no time. It took me about 6-10 months to drop all of my medications and now, every day older I get, the better I feel. Welcome to the rest of your life!

I am not sure, but I think that we have someone in there 70's that just had surgery. I don't think that we youngsters in our 60's are near the cut off. I am going to be 62, I had it done in Oct. I feel younger and better than I have in about 25 years!!!!

All right, I'm 68 and 20 years ago lived in the mountains and was an avid hiker and x-country ski fanatic. Today I'm 80 pounds heavier, have had my right knee replaced, have high BP, high cholesterol, and my PCP says if I don't lose this weight I can count on having a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years (which could be next week, the way I see it). I've tried them all, personal trainer, WW, NutriSystem (ugh!), Atkins, South Beach and at one time lost 50 pounds, went off the diet, and immediately gained back 60. I've been all over LBT and see people wondering if it's the "right" choice to go ahead and get banded. In my case I feel like that decision has already been made for me, because I don't like the alternatives. I'm so glad I found a 60 thread although I really relate to all the people on the LBT (at least the ones considering the surgery). I'll keep following you and one of these days I'll report back about MY surgery. Bless you.

NG - you described my situation exactly. It became crystal clear that I was unable to lose weight and keep it off at this point in my life. And my life would be short, if I didn't find an answer.

Lapband is a tool - you will have to do the work. But you can see by all the success on these forums, you can succeed.

18 lbs. are gone since I started this process. I feel confident I can regain my life.

Thanks once again for the kind words. In reading all the recent messages, the sad part of our situations, is the part we have tired every diet imaginable and they all failed which makes us feel like failures. That definitely played games with our minds. But OMG someone created this device called Lap Band and has saved us, and now our New Life Begins. That is the great news. For me this surgery is in reality a life saver. In May of 2009 the drs were not giving me many more then a few years. My arteries are clear, but I have what is called dystolic dysfunction with exercise induced pulmonary hypertension. The doctors were at their whits end in trying to keep my systolic BP down without lowering my diastolic anymore as it was as low as it could go. They basically ran out of medication for the blood pressure. By getting the weight off, it will give the heart and lungs more room to function without have to work as hard, thus lowering BP, thus giving me more time, if God is willing, to be here on earth. So to anyone who is thinking about getting this procedure done because of underlying health issues, don't hesitate, do the research on the surgeon, the facility, etc. etc. and go for it. I just wish, this was available ten years ago. Because that would have been ten years of a quality of life that I haven't had. Once again guys, I am doing well. Now the work really begins and that is what makes life so much fun, waiting to see what tomorrow brings.

I'll be 64 in May. I'm almost 11 months out and feel wonderful. I'm having my right knee replaced in May and looking forward to the rehab. I was over 300 lbs when I had the left one done and oh how hard it was. This one will be a breeze.

Hi everyone,

Glad you came through with flying colors oldone!

Like everyone here, I had a multitude of medical issues...bad back (fused), bad foot(crushed arch), hip and knee pain, as well as high bp, asthma.....you know the list.:Banane20:

I am down 54 pounds now and feel a lot better! Off of 2 of my 3 bp meds. I had my surgery in July 2009 and am not losing really fast, but very happy to be where I am!

I don't know how old you have to be to not have the surgery, but a friend of mine had his surgery at the age of 76. He had a multitude of health problems before. The band is doing wonders for him and he is off of all his diabetes meds, cholesterol meds and has had his bp meds reduced.

He was banded in Oct. 2009.

I say Congrats to us all!!!!!:Banane20:

Welcome back Roxie!

I hope you are having a great recovery from back surgery. I had mine fused in 2003 and have been so much better...getting some weight off has helped also!:tt1:

I still have some problems with the back, but comparing it to how it was before surgery...I really shouldn't complain at all.

Keep us posted on how you are doing with that and the weight loss.

I am down 54lbs since July! I am due for a fill on April 13th (day before I turn 65!!). I am looking forward to that birthday gift, even though the last 2 fills have been tough on me. SLIME:drool:...yuck!

Glad to see you are back to posting!

Went to see my surgeon for first meeting this week. He wants to do surgery in early June 2010. I say let's get it done. Yeah!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
