10 lbs a month. WOW! That is over the prescribed 1-2 lbs per week or 8 lbs per month. You are doing really great.

If you want slow turtle, take a look at my record. According to Fit day, I am losing .32 lbs per week, but gosh darn it all adds up.

Thank you all for your kindness! The best news to me is that no matter what rate I lose this weight, it will all come off and it will stay off! Reading all your posts is so encouraging to me, and probably to lots of others, as well.

The amazing part is that I have rarely been tempted in all this time, and I do go out to eat with friends quite often. Fish or Soup are always my favorites when I eat out, and leftovers are always good for another meal or two. Now I must admit that Friday night I volunteered to work at a parent's night out at my school---the homemade chocolate chip Cookies smelled way too good, so I covered them with foil and kept away from them! Luckily, I can give away sweets and goodies that people give me (if I keep it out of my home, I can't be tempted in a moment of weakness). The mere idea that a little one wanted to give me something is what matters so much; giving the goodies away keeps me in control of what I eat.

Honestly, I thought the holidays would be harder (but I haven't survived them yet!). I found that turkey was hard for me to eat, in more than a bite or two. It's reassuring when I can't have/don't want something that I used to eat, and probably in excess, before the band. I thank God daily for this band (and many other blessings, of course).

Hi everyone, I finally got my cardio dr and my lapband dr to get on the same page as me. I am scheduled for banding on Dec 18th.

I love reading all the posts. I am more of a reader then a writer.

If I loose slow or fast, (fast would be great) what matters to me is that I am taking control and at 60 this is the best decision I have made in a long time. I am committed to this new life style and can't wait to get started.

Hi Pioneer,

I am having my lapband surgery on December 17th so I will be thinking of you and praying that we both do well. I am scared but so ready to have this done and begin my new adventure. The best to you!

Hi Twirl,

I was banded June 10 and was once on 14 meds for BP and arthritis. My insurance required a 6 month pre-surgery diet that was doctor supervised. My doctor required Optifast for 2 weeks before surgery. By the time I had my surgery, I was pretty much off most of my meds and afterwards, I didn't need anything (not even pain meds!). Good thing, as I cannot swallow pills now! Maybe you could crush your pills and take them with yogurt, or if capsules, open them and stir the contents into yogurt? I would talk with my doctor about this, if I were you.

Good luck,

Nancy

Twril, Before you crush your pills, check with the pharmacist to see if they can be crushed. Some pills should not be crushed and some cap should not be opened. Just check first. You might be able to ge some of your drugs in liquid form or chewables, ask drugist.

Are you still in the clear liquid stage? If so, no yogurt.

If all else fails, check with the Dr who prescribed the meds and ask for alternative drugs in liquid or chewable form.

Good Luck and Congrats on the Surgery. I am getting band this Thursday Dec 18th,

Hi Twirl,

I saw the PA at my surgeon's office today for my post op visit. I showed him some of the pills I need to take - a couple of prescriptions and some supplements. What it boiled down to was this: if the pill is about the size of a regular M&M it will be okay to take it. Some of the supplements were small but rectangular - he suggested cutting them in half. I did not have anything large. I know I will have to get either chewable or liquid for those (fish oil and glucosamine). I think this is a question for your doctor - they should be able to guide you...

I'm sorry you are not feeling well. I took the pain meds for a couple of days, but by Sunday (surgery was on Thursday) I was feeling well enough to get by without the pain meds again. I stayed pretty much home-bound all week, and felt pretty fatigued. But after today's dr visit (1 1/2 hour drive from home, DH drove) I felt pretty good. I've decided on a shopping excursion with DD tomorrow - no mall!!! but a bead shop for her and a yarn shop for me! I think I can handle that.

I hope you will be feeling better soon. Take your time, rest a lot, walk as much as you can, and be really nice to yourself.

Hey Jazzey! The title of the thread is 60+. It does not say how much + you are allowed to be. I guess it can go all the way up as far as it has to! You may post here anytime you want to... :rolleyes2:

LOL!! NO, you're NOT in the wrong place! This is the 60+ thread! I even hang out on the 50+ thread.

I just turned 65 a couple of weeks ago.

Where is Atwater CA??

We are "snowbirds" and spend the winter in Desert Hot Springs.

Love it here!

Atwater is 1 HR. north of Fresno inthe central valley

Okay... I kinda know where that is.

Anyway, WELCOME to our 60+ thread. So you are trying to get approved for surgery? Where are you at in the process? You're on Medicare, right?? So you have to find a "Center of Excellence"? That can be a real pain! It took me a couple of weeks of phone calls, etc, to find a surgeon in WA who took Medicare, had the "Center of Excellence" seal of approval, along with the faclity he used, and didn't have a 3 year waiting list! That was spring of 2007. My initial appointment with him was the beginning of May and I had my surgery 7/20/07. Hope your experience is as effortless as mine was! And I was pretty surprised at how little I had to go through to pre-qualify! No psych, for one thing. About all I had to do was go on a pre-op diet (wanted me to lose 10% of my body weight and/or get my BMI down to 60 or below), and nutrition consult. They told me Medicare wouldn't pay for that, but believe it or not, I just got a bill for that this week!! Hope there won't be any other surprises showing up in my mail!!

:):biggrin::biggrin:

Although, I can't complain. They wrote off $100 of it so my balance is less than $75!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
