Hello I am pretty new to this forum and I find so much interesting info here. I could not help but to notice that it is someone that had been filled at the time of their surgery, is this normal? I am getting my band next month and was wanting to know if this is something that I should ask them to do at that time?

Thanks for any info

Hi S,

It is not normal to have Fluid in the band at the time of placement, no. Particularly with the Inamed 4cc band (which is what most people get), it would be highly unusual.

Hi there I was filled at the time of surgery also to 2.5 CC. The Doc said that the reason for this was because my insides had no fat. There was absolutely no fat around my organs and my stomach was small therefore if they didnt fill it, I wouldn't lose weight. I feel fine...Hope things are well with you too.

Even if you didn't have fat on your organs, which is suprising really, if your BMI was in the range they request, but, that is great. Usually they don't put the fill in at surgery because the band when first placed is just establishing itself on your stomach, and there will be swelling on its own. Not to forget to mention that you can't eat solids during the first 4 weeks anyway. The Week you get the fill the doctor needs to check you out anyway to make sure there are no problems

I have the 4cc inamed band, and I was filled with .6cc during surgery. From my understand fill is used to make sure that the band is 'snug' around your stomach (not tight of course). I didn't actually know this until I went for my fill and they pulled it out. lol...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
