Hey everyone! -- I am a 36 year old mom of a 11 year old son and am a paralegal by profession. My husband (and high school sweetheart) was just diagnosed with diabetes so we are completely making lifestyle changes together. We gained weight together - guess now it's time to reverse it! I enjoy reading, watching movies and scrapbooking.

Hi Aliwatt and congratulations! Did your doctor and/or nutritionist give you guidelines? Most of the time you start out on Clear liquids -- broths, juice, Jello, popsicles, that sort of thing -- and the progress to full liquids, such as cream Soups. There are liquid phase suggestions here. Let us know how you're doing!

I am 46 and married with 3 kids. I have been overweight all of my childhood and most of my adult life. I had a span of from the ages of 20 thru 26 when I was not over weight but actually in very good shape. I have most of the co-morbitites listed in Aetna's list: Asthma, Diabeties, High BP, Congestive heart failure, Afibb & sleep apnea.

My problems really started in November of 1997 when I was diagnosed with Lumbar Stenosis. In 2001 I had to be hospitalized with type II diabetes and High BP. In 2004 I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. This past April I had to be rushed to the ER and was diagnosed with Congestive Heart failure and Afibb. Yes, I was a stroke waiting to happen. My Ahrrythmia specialists told me if I didn't start to lose weight in a hurry I would not be around this time next year.

The Ahrrythmia Specialists recommended I look in to the Lap-Band procedure. At my heavist I weighed 435 lbs. At my first consult I weighed 413 lbs. I weighed in at 376 lbs on 2/25/08 the day of my surgery. I

My goal (besides losing weight) is to cut back on as many meds as possible. My Diabetic injectable (Lantus) has been reduced from 100 units daily to 30 units just because of the weight lost to date.

HI everyone! I was banded on 2/18! :huh2:

I found the day after surgery to be the worst, but it was more discomfort than pain. I also did not fill the pain killer prescription, because it contained codeine, which I hate. I find that the gas pressure was really the worst of it all, and the more I moved the more relief.

My follow-up was Monday (2/25), right after my first day back at work...I've lost 17 lbs. already! My energy level is fantastic, and my hubby says I have not snored all week! (You could usually hear me from a mile away!) :smile2:

Wishing you all the same continuous success!!! :tongue2:

Hi, I'm a 62 year old male. I was banded 11 Feb. The expierence was great. I met my DR on 26 Jan since then I lost 31 Lbs. I drink a whey Protien shake, with 1 cup of milk and frozen strawberries. Put all in a blender and it's great. Has 29 grams of protien, carries me to lunch, then I have a yoplait smoothie and that carries me to dinner. Tonight I had asmall piece of porkchop with carrots cooked in a crock pot all day. I find this very easy to follow.

I was just thinking I'd like to start a thread to get know each other better. Guess I just needed to look. It was fun reading about all of you! It seems like we all come from different places and different walks of life, but come together so beautifully to share with each other, encourage and support each other.

Anyway...

I'm Kelli. I'm 37 years old, married, and mother of 5 teenage girls. They are 18, 17, 16, 14, and 13. My oldest is a freshman in college this year and living on campus, so I'm down to 4 at home. At least for now.

I work at a company that manufactures electronics and such. We make ATM machines, picture maker kiosks, self-checkout machines, along with other computer-type stuff. I'm an inventory analyst. My husband is an electrician, 48 years old, and you gotta feel for the man being the only male in the house! :Dancing_shocked: He has been my biggest supporter and cheerleader in this.

At surgery, I weighed 319 lbs and wore a size 26/28. The highest I've ever been is 328. I've struggled with weight all my life. I remember weighing in at 240 lbs when I was 16 years old.

We have 3 cats. Kizzi, Shadow, and Lily. We just acquired a dog. She looks like she's mixed with chihuahua. She's a cutie, and I think we may keep her.

I've really appreciated all the encouragement and support you all have shown since I've joined LBT. I'm glad we can share this journey together!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
