A few years a (3) I moved from California to the mid west. I love high heel flip flops and wore them every day in Cal. but when I moved to the mid west and wore them people would look at me like I was dressed like a hooker or hoshie momma. All I had on was a t-shirt and capri pants and my beloved high heel flip flops. People tend to dress way down here and it seems to me if your going shopping....at lest put some makeup on and do your hair befor you go to the mall.

I can only wear sensible round-toed flats. This is because I have great big boney feet which are shaped like a duck's flippers. I tell people who try to get me into grrly shoes that I have Lesbian feet - well, I tell everyone this except for my best GF who is a Lesbian and who wears men's shoes. Heels hurt my feet. Cheap shoes hurt my feet and I do a lot of walking. I need spongey soles and the uppers have be made out of very soft leather or they will rip the skin in my feet. I hate my feet.

Ditto. I don't mind wearing heeled shoes that have a wide, chunky heel, but I can't wear thin heels at all. I apparently tend to walk on the outer edges of my feet, which obviously would not work well with thin heels. I'd break my ankle, guaranteed. :wink2: Maybe I'll be able to change the way I walk once I get thin, but I doubt it.

I love wearing heels but I detest anything close to a stiletto and would gladly buy a pair upon reaching goal, so that I could burn them. I don't think they're particularly attractive, IMO they look slutty and akward, and while I can walk all day in a 3" heel, ones that skinny (especially a stiletto above 2") are just evil uncomfortable.

I'll spcify that by stiletto, I'm using the "fashion" definition of the entire shoe style, and not the "colloquial" definition of just a tall, skinny heel.

The name actually comes from the stiletto dagger, which is very narrow before it comes to its sharp point, thus the stiletto heel itself is quite narrow, coming to a point on the ground that is 1 cm in diameter or less.

BTW, you don't have to be thin to wear heels. I wore them at my highest weight, which is probably a good 75+ lbs than most of you weighed on your worst PMS day.

I wore heels at 245lb too - I never had a problem other than they hurt your feet, wreck your back and I'm already 5ft 10. I dont get the shoe thing, I'll wear appropriate shoes for appropriate occasions and enjoy a nice pair but I dont get excited till you're talking running shoes or until I get into the Birkenstock shop in the city. I have a birkenstock fetish - which is good since my alternative would be nanna shoes with orthotics. I love funky birkenstocks!

I've tried Birks but they're very uncomffortable to me. Flats are "in" this season, which is nice, not that I'm a great fashionista. I don't need the heels for height, I'm tall enough, so I've been trekking around in tons of flats, especially the strappy sport sneaker types, MJs, and some Born strap flats (I'd never worn that brand before, but they're super comfortable and I will be buying more).

Borns are awesome! They really are the most comfortable shoes I've worn in a long time.

Now that I am old and have inherited money, I buy shoes made by Thiery Rabotin. These cost a bunch of bucks but the uppers are made from kid glove leather and the shoes weigh as much as dust. Their walking shoes are the most amazing foot gear I have ever worn and I have been living in these. I also wear Puma shoes and shoes made by Ecco and a few other European makes.

The most truly decadent experience, however, is a Thiery Rabotin shoe for what you get is a comfortable sole which is made of space-age light-weight materials and yet at the same time your foot is housed in a kid glove leather sleeve. This is a truly sublime experience. They ain't cheap and this is kind of a drag. On the other hand you will get a lot of wears per cost and this will reduce the overall investment.

I love heels especially stilletos and wear them pretty much everyday. I will say though in the last couple of months my feet have been hurting. Which has never happened in the past. So I can't wait to drop a few more pounds so hopefully the foot pain will go away.

YES! I can't wait to be able to wear sexy heels! Torrid.com has wide width heels but even some of those don't fit me well. As far as learning how to walk in them (CHELLE B.) I'd reccomend starting off wearing them around the house to start. While you are doing household chores maybe? This way, if you happen to stumble and fall, noone ever will know, unless you live on the second floor apartment like me! I once slipped and fell on a wet kitchen floor, and I know my neighbors had to know what happened. What else would make such a loud bang? LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
