I've been really busy this weekend and I didn't do so well, but I'm trying to start strong again today. I was gone all day long yesterday, after church I went with my sister to help her find her wedding dress. I'm going to try to do my best this week but my sons' birthday party is this weekend and I'm going to eat, Celebrate and have fun! So until then, it's back to carb-free living.

OK so last night my husband breaks out the huge container of white powdered donuts that Grandma sent home with me last week ... they looked and smelled so good. I ate one ... but I didn't swallow! I just chewed it then spit it out  ... sounds lame I know, kinda like when Clinton said he didn't inhale LOL ... but I didn't want to ruin the progress I've made so far. Anyhow, just tasting it was enough to satisfy the craving. To my surprise, the scale went down another 8oz this morning  ... thought for sure it would have been at a standstill due to me so dang lazy yesterday!

Hope ya'll have a great day today ... I'm off to continue house hunting

I feel like I have been MIA!! It's so hard to eat well when I'm on the go so much. This week isn't going to be much better with planning my sons' party. The good news is, I found out that I didn't have to go to jury duty today like I thought I was going to have to. I am soooo relieved about that. Anyway, today's going a lot better.

Guys, I am having a REALLY hard time staying on Atkins this week. Maybe I have done the induction for as long as I can stand it. For example, today for lunch, I was very hungry for some bread. I toasted a piece of wheat bread and ate ham and cheese with it. Not so bad, huh. But on atkins it is bad. Don't know what to do. I was going to just quit doing atkins, then I weighed and I am down a pound. I am not looking for "oh you can do it" remarks. I really want to know what yall think. do you think I am being a wimp and just need to put on my big girl panties, or is it time to modify my diet as this is a for the rest of my life thing, not a "diet". What do you guys think???

Whew.....well, I spent all day (off and on) reading this thread. I was banded in September and am not pleased with my progress at all. I have nobody to blame but myself. I am a big emotional/stress eater and though I was in therapy for almost 2 years before I had surgery, but I guess it was not enough. I am now back in individual and group therapy. However, I know that a big part of my problem is also my sugar/carb addiction. I did very well on my very low carb pre-op diet because I got off the sugar/carbs. Now, I'm back on sugar/carbs full fledge and I drink with my meals so I can eat more and I'm just basically eating around my band. I'm very disappointed in myself and I have some serious changes to make. I think low carbing will help me because it will help reduce my appetite and cravings.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. I really want to do this. I have a few questions if you all don't mind.

Georgia girl--What does the lightly salted dry roasted edamame taste like?

Those who workout, has low carbing kept you from being able to work out as long/hard as you did before low carbing? I am very proud of myself in that I have been working out religiously for a month now and I am able to do 45-60 minutes of cardio plus some weights (not a whole lot) about 4 times per week. I do not want to lose my stamina and endurance. I know in the past when I have tried to eat low carb or even cut my calories, it makes a big difference in how good and long I can workout.

Well, I'm sure I'll have more questions. I'm thinking of starting Friday because I know for me, in the past, days 2 and 3 have always been the worst and that would put those days being Saturday and Sunday so I could just sleep all day if need be.

Hey mandi78! They taste kind of like peanuts to me. The only problem I have with them is that they make my mouth really dry and I really want to drink something when I eat them. It's really hard to wait at least 30 minutes before I drink something. They are a very nutritious snack, and very high in Protein. I think they have 2 net carbs per 1/4 cup, which is really good.

Good luck on the low carb diet. I hope it helps you get to where you need to be.

Renewed, I think we are sister's separated at birth, lol. I am going through the exact same thing. I haven't been posting because I didn't want to be a downer and bum everyone out. This has not been a good week for me at all. I am craving sugar like crazy. Low carb really works for me, but the problem is, it's soooo hard to make it a lifestyle.

I was talking to my husband yesterday about this, and he said I was much happier and seemed to have more energy when I was eating a balanced meal. I haven't really had any fruits or many vegetables since I started this. I'm not a huge meat fan in the first place, so it's been hard to eat all this meat. I'm also dealing with a lot of hormonal issues that my Endo is working with me on, she's trying to help me get some energy back. I've just been feeling crappy and I think that is a huge factor in the way I'm feeling.

I don't really know what to tell you because I'm having the same thoughts. I'm really thinking about trying to start with the calories again. I feel your pain!

Noooo you're not being a wimp! You just need to find what works for you, not only with the weightloss but also with what leaves you happy, content & satisfied. I guess the reason why I can stick to Atkins easily is because of my total dislike for veggies and such ... since I don't like them, I don't miss them! Gave up bread a long time ago because it causes pain so don't miss it either. Having all the sweets in the house lately has been rather difficult though. So bad I want to eat a Twinkie but more than that I want to achieve my mini goal by next week, it's super important to me.

Seriously, count calories for a few days and see what happens. You don't have to do Atkins ALL the time, switch things up every once in awhile to find out what works for you! :tt1:

I ate too many calories today ...

Breakfast ~ Atkins Caramel Latte shake

Lunch ~ Egg salad

Snack ~ 7 slices Hillshire Farm deli thin pastrami

Snack ~ Atkins Caramel Latte shake

Dinner ~ Carl's Jr. Low Carb $6 burger (patty w/ cheese, onion & Tomato only)

thanks guys. My dh and I were also talking about this last night. I like meat, so that is not a problem for me. I also love fruits and vegetables. I really don't eat much bread. It's hard to get down, but toast I do ok with. I want to be able, at some point, to make good food choices in small quantities, without counting anything. I am so fearful of doing that, because I don't want to screw up my weight loss. However, I don't want to "diet" for always.

I also couldn't tell any difference with my last fill until yesterday. Isn't that odd? I suddenly have more restriction. I am also dealing with the emotional part of all of the more than i have before. I was telling dh last night that I want to gulp a drink. I want to just eat normal. Obviously that is not what I really want. My goal to lose weight is much larger than my desire for these things. I think I am just going through a period of grieving my old habits. As destructive as they were, they were mine and I had held on to them for years. With my all or nothing behavior, this is where I would usually just stop, but I am determined to fight through this. I am however struggling emotionally. In thinking about all of this last night I think I discovered that the big picture is not Atkins vs calories. It is just part of my journey in breaking my addiction to food.

Georgia, I think we were seperated at birth. It is so crazy how our journeys have so closely resembled each other!! The important thing for all of us is that we continue to press forward.

One of my favorite Bible verses is Phollipians 3:12...

"Not that I have already obtained all of this, or that I have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."

So, for today, I am really not sure what "diet" I am going to follow, but I am going to press on!!!!

Amy

Amy, I know how you feel. This is why I'm not even sure if starting Atkins is the right thing for me. I know I have to do something though. I am not losing at all and my habits are very destructive. I'm not following bandster guidelines at all. I'm just hoping and praying that I have not already stretched my pouch or messed up something regarding my stomach or my band.

Renewed, that is just crazy! I posted on the Sweetheart Goal thread last night that I suddenly had more restriction yesterday. We definitely have a lot in common! I'm gonna call you my Soul Sista! LOL!

Your comments and scripture about pressing forward reminds me of a song by Selah that I love, it's called "Press On". Your right, no matter what we decide to do, we have to press on and continue with the weight loss. Good luck today and hopefully we will find what works for us soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
