Considering Banding...

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I am seriously considering LapBand. I am 30 years old with a three-year-old and one-year-old. My BMI is 42. I am 5'3" and weigh 238lbs.

I have been heavy my entire life. I have been able to lose about 25lbs on WWs and Atkins but I always gain back. I have never been this heavy.

I like to eat and sometimes eat when I am not hungry.

So, what's it like? Will I still continue to eat when I am not hungry? I don't even know where to start with all my questions!! I guess I need to just read these forums! LOL!

Well, thanks for reading my random babbling or an introduction!

Hugs

Helga

I want to live healthly. I need to get control of my life I need this tool to help me get control and to stay in control. So I am saying this to say you have to know what's best for you and your body. Good Blessings on whatever you decide to do.

Read, read, read....and do a lot of thinking. I originally researched bypass and in realizing it wasn't for me, found banding. It's a personal choice. I like to make pros and cons lists when making big decisions. My cons list was very short compared to the pros. Good luck in your journey!

Well I think every one is different, however I can not eat if my hunger is simply head hunger.....I've tried and thank God it will not got down! I have very good restriction right now so even if i'm hungry sometimes I cant eat...i quickly learned how to eat around my band whic is a very bad habit, I think i'm over it....lol I keep little to no junk food in the house and I try and fill up on solid foods rather than soft foods which is usually junk.... or shakes. good luck! I'm sure you'll make the decision thats right for you!

be Blessed,

Ms.Cleo

I hear ya!

I am finally now the same weight I was when on Atkins years ago.

This time...I can't gain the weight back...the band won't let me.

I was banded March of 2007 when I was 30. I have 2 small children also. It has been the best thing I have ever done for myself and my family. I have lost 100lbs. It is not an easy answer to weight lose, but it is a tool I charish. I still have to watch what I eat, but with the correct fill food is not always on my brain. Best of luck!!

All I can suggest is to read read read and read some more.

That is all I did before I even began posting here and on other sites I'm on. I just wanted to read about all the ups and downs and really get a feel for what the banded life is like. I now know that it won't be easy, that I will have challenges for the rest of my life even with the band, but that the band will help me if I use it correctly. I think on line and live support groups are very important because there is always something to know and I know that as I continue my journey I will need to talk to people who understand what I'm going through.

You have found a good place!

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
