Need A Diet To Follow

Recommended Posts

HELP,

I was baned on Nov 26th . I do not feel like I have lost any weight. I have not had a fill yet. Need to make time in the next couple weeks to get one.

I was wondering if anyone has a book or something with a diet I can follow specifically for Lap Band patients. I am very busy with my job and work long hours. I heard that you need to eat around 800 calories but I don't know what that is and would love a diet to follow for awhile until I get the hang of it.

In addition, right now I really don't have time to sit down and figure out my food. It has been suggested that I do lean cuisine, but I would like a healthy diet that does not include processed food.

I got the band so I would be healthy. I manage to walk about 1 hour per day. If I can get some of this weight off i feel I would be better able to handle the gym.

i would like to start loosing weight now and not wait until I get my fills.

Any diet or book suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Did your doc's office give you a diet? It's usually Proteins first then veggies. Always work on getting that Protein in. Also, cut yourself some slack. you don't even have a fill yet. IF you have questions, you should ask your doc's office what they suggest when you go for a fill. Some people on this site follow Weight Watcher, some South Beach, and others like me, focus on lean protein, veggies, and supplement with low cal/low carb shakes. Go get your first fill and it will be easier to really start losing! Also, KUDOS on the walking daily! NICE!!!

Until I got my first fill I just watched my sugar intake and eliminated most white carbs, etc. It seemed to help, plus I did have a little restriction.

I am trying to find something to get back on track now until my next fill in Feb. I am thinking of doing South Beach or something similar.

Good luck!!

Good for you for choosing the Band. I agree with not going the procesed food route. It's okay, when you don't have time to cook.

Depending on how much time you can give to cooking healthy meals get some of the following in your kitchen arsenal;

1) a food scale, it doesn't have to be an expensive one,

2) measuring cups and spoons.

3) containers for batch cooking and freezing

Protein - 4oz of meat, fish or other Protein, unlimited vegetables and about 3oz - 4oz carbs. And stay within the grams guideline your nutritionist gives you. See the nutritionist often. Their very helpful in getting you on track with what you should eat. All this depending on how much you can eat at this time.

There are many websites you can go to and follow their (diet) menu. The one I'm using is SparkPeple.com, it's free. One other is FitDay.com and after this post, you will get other suggestions. Hope you'll have time to visit them.

On SparkPeople you can manuver the menu plan. They also give you a fitness plan and a host of other useful info. The site is for anyone wishing to lose weight.

Don't get discouraged it's still a learning process. We're all still learning to get this right.

Go for your first fill, that will help. I had my surgery on the same day as you and after the first week had no restriction. It was very difficult to make it to the 6 week mark for my first fill but I did it. I ate alot of Jello & pudding which I found filling. Crackers also helped so I minimized the calories but wasn't ultra hungry. Good Luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
