How much time off work?

Recommended Posts

How long has everyone taken off work when they were banded? I am due to be banded on the Wednesday before easter so I was thinking I could go back to school on the following Wednesday or Thursday after easter. Is that too ambitious or a good amount of time?

I was off for 2 whole weeks. I could have gone back on day 11 or 12 if I had to, but I was glad to have the 2 weeks. I work a desk job, if I'd had a more strenuous job, I might have taken longer. I was on liquids for 2 weeks though, so I didn't have much energy because of that.

I had surgery on 1/14/08. I was planning to go back to work on 1/23/08 to a desk job...As of today I feel like I'd feel fine to do that...BUT..Dr. said he will absolutely NOT clear me to drive until I see him on 1/29/08. So it looks like I'm out of work till the 30th and I'm feeling great already...and I have Cabin Fever!!! I need to get in my car and go!!! Oh well...I guess I'll have to practice relaxing..I'm not so good at it.

You will need 5 days I think. I had surgery on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. I could have gone back on Saturday if the office was open. Good luck to you.

Hi,

I planned 2 weeks off post-op and I"m glad I did. I couldn't think about going back to work tomorrow on a full Fluid diet and I don't have a lot of energy.

I had 4 weeks off - but I did ask for that. I just had so much on my plate, and I knew I had a bit of "head" stuff to deal with, I decided I wanted time to work through things.

I am glad I did:wink2:

I had only planned for one week off but I found that I couldn't sit in a chair for to long without pain and I found that dressing was a bit hard everything I tried irritated my staples so in the end I wore a singlet with shorts sitting under my tummy, so I ended up taking two weeks.

I would definitely recommend taking a bit longer even if you don"t think that you are going to need it - at least then you will be a bit further into the post op diet stages and will have more of a handle on what you can and can not do/ eat / drink.

Good Luck

I'm currently at day six and there's no way I'm ready to rejoin the world. I still get pain in my shoulder on and off and also around my rib cage on the left side. My wounds look good, but they are quite tender and I am only wearing really loose clothes over them.

I am doing light house work but get tired quickly. I imagine this is due to a very limited food intake as well as my body using energy to try and repair itself. I am pleased to say that there is a noticeable difference every day in how good I feel. I'm expecting that I'll be pretty much back to normal by about day 10.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
