Where are the vermonters?

Recommended Posts

Are there any Vermonters out there any more? I would love to find someone to talk to in my area, or quite frankly anyone in any area is fine with me

I am here too!

I am a Vermonter from North of Burlington. All is well with me, how are you doing? I just had my 2nd fill last week and I already can tell I need another one. I will see Dr. Forgione next week for another 5 minute chat that will probably lead to another fill a fews weeks later. I can't get over how busy he is.

I will have to check this thread more frequently to see how you are doing.

Has anyone had the Lapband surgery and see Deborah instead of Dr. Forgione for any of the visits? Just wondering.

Cyndi

Hello you guys, I am south burlington myself. I am getting very excited about my lap band surgery, I can't wait to get a date and see how the insurance company does for me. Did anyone have issues with insurance?

:frown: Hi! I am in Vermont and I am going to see my PCP soon about getting the lap band done. Can anyone tell me how long the process usually takes from initial consult to band surgery date?

Thanks!

I have not gotten banded yet, but so far Cigna has paid all but my copays. As long as I do what they require of me, 6 month phys. diet they will cover the surgery as long as they see as a medical necessity, which from what my primary doc says it is a medical necessity, and she told me what doc. Forgione wrote to Cigna he can talk it up pretty good too.

So don't worry too much.

I use CIGNA as well. However, you do have to jump through all of their hoops. It took me about 6 months from consult to operation. CIGNA did not pay for some test such as the one for a baseline heart rate (done as a pre-op). At this time they do not pay for my consults after the fill or for my fills with Dr. Forgione. I have the insurance through my husband's work. I am not sure how CIGNA's plans are developed, maybe in tiers? My husband's employer is our town we live in and as of now we do not pay into the insurance. This is a very small town and we did not want to rock the boat by complaining about the insurance plans. So this is my experience with the insurance company.

Glad to see you guys on here, today I have my second appt with Dr. Forgione to discuss my upper gi test from last week and find out the results. I imagine I meet with the nutritionist again as well. I think I have lost about 1.5pds towards my weight loss goal of 11, we'll see.

I saw Dr. Forgione today as well. I have two fills in and another one scheduled for Feb 25th. I begged to get in sooner, but they could not fit me in. It feels like I have been on this road to weight loss forever and I want to see some results. I was banded 8/20/07 and I have lost only 11 1lbs. since then. How far do you have to travel? It takes me an hour and a half to get to Burlington on a good day.

Cyndi,

I feel like I know you, you've said your a new teacher and you live in Northern Vermont. Did you recently graduate from Johnson State College? I bet we've taken a few classes together, did you work at Bakersfield Elementary?

I think the quality of insurance coverage varies from company to company, like you said. Lane press whom my husband works for employs over 1000 people, so their coverage maybe alot different than someone who employs say 20 people.

But non the less I hate them they are expensive and coverage is sucky for what we end up paying out of pocket. Better than having to pay 100% I guess.

Good Luck and keep up the chin, I know what you mean about the never ending weight loss.

I go for the nut. class on 2/6, I have a sleep study on 2/25 and after that I am not sure what is in store for me.

Elizabeth, my husband works for Queen City printers ( for 20 years) what does your husband do at Lane? We also have a very good friend who works at Lane press also.

Have you had the band done already? I noticed you lost a ton of weight but you said you had a nutrition class and a sleep study coming up?

Hey Elizabeth,

That is me! I am now working in Richford as a Title I Reading Teacher and I love my job.

I am trying to stay positive about losing weight and I know it will happen sooner or later, its just that life is short. On that note, I try to live for the day and not for the future...I am learning.

Hi, I just had my first appt. today 02/2008. I left there feeling very excited. Although I don't look forward to my future visits with DW.

I wasn't thrilled with D.W. either. She made me feel like I don't try hard enough to exercise and loose weight. Well if she was this fat she would have a hard time too. That's the only thing about the visits. Dr. F is fine, in fact he never sounds condescending, but D. W and the nutritionist seem to. I am trying to put more exercise into my life, but it's a struggle for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
