I was banded by Dr. Rumbaut (Mexico) one month ago and am looking for a fill doc nearby. I know the only one in Alabama right now is Dr. Caylor in Foley. Does anyone know of others within easy driving distance of Birmingham?

try www.gastricbandinstitute.com. thats where i had mine. they are wonderful. i live in NE AL. its in dalton ga, south of chattanooga, tn. check out the wed site. it has alot of info. Dr. Ponce was in the FDA study for having it preformed in the US. fills and re-fills r $200. they r very good. wait time is good too.

Kaylee,

Did you get banded in Dalton too? Or did you just get your fill there? I am looking into getting the surgery done in Dalton. Did you pay or use insurance? If you used insurance, who was your carrier?

I was banded in Mexico also. How much are fills in Folley Al.? Is there a reason why you don't want to use that Doc?

Dr. Caylor in Foley is wonderful, and yes, I think he will do fills for other patients. He did my surgery, and I have had nothing but smooth sailing!

I have spoken with someone who was banded in Mexico and wanted Dr. Ponce to perform her fills. He's changed his policy recently. He now charges $2000.00 a year for fills, no limits.

I think that's a little extreme. I've never heard of Dr. Caylor, but would be interested to know if he would fill someone who was banded in Mexico. I know of a doctor in Nashville that will take on patients that were banded in Mexico. He will even see you in an emergency situation, but Nashville is a pretty long haul from Birmingham.

I was just wondering if you ever found a fill dr? Dr Clements at UAB started doing lap-band in November. I was banded 2 1/2 weeks ago...he's awesome!!!

Hi Shannon,

I am from Alabama and often come down to Trussville. For future reference could you share with us Dr. Clements's website information. It's good to know if I should need help.

Thank-you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
