Back to Back Surgery, Gall Bladder/Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I just had my gall bladder taken out on the January 6th in an emergency surgery. My original WLS date was February 12th, but I decided to move it to March. I was wondering for those who have had the surgeries back to back how you dealt with it. Were there any problems? Any issues with scarring, mobility and things of that nature. I guess I am a little afraid now of having another surgery so soon since my incissions are still healing. Plus, I am wondering if having one surgery will make the healing time for the second longer. Anything will help. Thanks.

I have not yet had WLS but I did want to comment on this -

I had emergency surgery to remove my gall bladder back in August. I still have some issues with food going "straight thru". This is usually the greasier foods, though. I was warned about this when I had the surgery. As long as I am mindful of what I eat, it's not so bad.

I don't think it'll make a negative impact on your WLS but you could always mention this to your surgeon or nutrionist and let them know what you are experiencing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
