Hi Everybody,

Well, all I can say is that none of this has been as I expected, and it's all for the better. I feel more energetic than I did before the surgery, and I know it can't be from much weight loss - I'm sure It's the chinese herbalist I've been seeing.

I've been eating things like olives, crackers, grapes, cheese and eggs, in very small amounts, with no problem. I have my first fill on the 2nd March - do you think this will change the food I can eat?

I hope you are all keeping well,

Take care, Rachel.

Rachel.... So glad you are feeling so great! Yes... a fill can change some of the foods you are able to eat... just be sure to eat slowly and chew... chew... chew when trying foods after your fill. Before my first fill I was able to eat nearly anything... after... bread and eggs and chicken were more difficult.

Hi Rachel!

Your title said 11 days on! Does that mean you just got your band 11 days ago?? I think my dr. says liquids for 3 weeks!! YUK. I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. Any words of wisdom for someone getting their band in a week?

Thanks,

Monica

Hi Darcy, Yes I've learnt my lesson with bread and chicken - definitely off the menu for a while. The incisions have also healed really quickly.

I had chocolate today - naughty, naughty.

I hope all is well with you, I'm not sure if this is the best way to send a message but I'm not computer savvy in the slightest.

Take care, Rachel.

Hi Monica,

Yes, I had the surgery 11 days ago and the only discomfort I feel is the occassional twinge where some of the incisions are - which have healed really quickly. I'm 335 pounds, and have bounced back remarkably quickly,

From what I can gather, every surgeon says something different. You'll know what feels right for you when it comes to eating - I would stay on liquids for at least a week.

Take care, Rachel.

Rachel, be careful about getting a first fill too soon. You need to be on hard Proteins (lean, moist meats and veggies) for a while first...so you can really see how your tummy handles them. Liquids and mushies aren't a true test. And you band needs time to anchor well. Everyone's different, I, personally, waited 2 months. So glad that you're feeling so well so soon. Must be your Dad's good cooking! LOL

Rachel I am very suprised you are getting a fill so soon and are eating olives and crackers and eggs 11 days post op. Most surgeons will not do a fill until 6 weeks post op. They want to be sure your are healed and your band and port are set in place.

What were your doctors post op eating instructions Im curious? Eating solids so soon after surgery is usually not reccomended because again they want your swelling to have gone down and to have everything set in place before you have to go through the digestive procees of digesting solids since it can make the stomach turn and rumble and could possibly make your band slip if it is not totally healed and set in place., anchored in place as some say, It seems strange but every doctor is different, I wish you the best :)

Rachel~ I am glad your doing so well, but slow down and take it easy . you don't want to over do it. Check with Dr. on getting that fill this early, not sure its a good idea.. Like Lamaddam said. to quickly might not be the best thing to do. Your body is still healing and it needs more time to adjust . Keep us posted! We are just looking out for you and are here if you need us!

Hi Rachel. Ooh, it's scary to me that you're eating solids at only 11 days post op. I'm 5 weeks post op and am just starting to experiment with some solids. Frankly, I'm really glad that my doc takes the conversative approach with reintroducing foods... 2 weeks Clear Liquids, gradually moving through pureed, creamy, soft, mushy stages. I figure I can be patient to ensure good band health and success. As for a fill, I'm losing weight now and I'm not even going to think fill until I've been on solids a while and know how the band is working. Remember, this isn't a magic bullet, but a lifetime tool.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the info and advice - I'm not sure if I should go back to eating liquids and soft food, but I feel so good that it seems pointless. I'm eating really small amounts of varied food with no problem.

Maybe I got it wrong about the fill on 2nd of March. I'm seeing the surgeon then and just assumed that's what it was for. Maybe it's just a check up.

Take care, Rachel.

Yup.. so often people think it has to do with toleration. This is absolutely a misconception. The reason for liquids/mushies is to allow the band to heal in place and scar tissue to be allowed to anchor it in. Any churning and grinding of solids at this point could set the stage for slippage later on. I think I'd definitely review my post op eating instructions or at least get a verification that solids are okay this early on. Better safe than sorry... :)

Hi Leatha,

Thanks for the info - I had no idea that that is what's happening.

I think that surgeons sometimes concentrate to much on the actual procedures, and a bit lacking in the before and after care and info.

I'm going to take your advice and go back to the soft stuff.

Thanks again,

Take care, Rachel.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
