:(

I am freakin' out. They took forever to submit it to insurance and in 2 days I got approved! WOW! (I am just excited, not bragging)

I have an appointment on Tuesday to meet with the Dr. and my wonderful husband thinks I will be getting surgery the first part of FEB!

OMG

What do I do next?

Get ready for a great new healthy life!!!! How exciting for you. I was banded on 10/29 and have lost 34 pounds - it's amazing how much different you feel. Finally after fill #3, I have AWESOME restriction (sometimes maybe a little too much) Research, research, research - that is my best recommendation. If you have a question, most certainly it has been posted here somewhere. The search option on this site is awesome to help find answers to your questions. The important thing to remember is that all surgeons are different in their requirements regarding pre and post op diets, fills, etc so be sure to follow what your doc recommends.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robin

Kristin: So I am just curious (i.e. you replied to my post below) is your insurance company going to cover the fills, etc. Do they give you benefits in writing on what they will/will not cover?)

Hi Kristin,

Spend a lot of time reading posts here, that is how I prepared myself for the unknown. I felt more in control when I knew what was coming.

My Surgeon said when he came to see me 30mins prior to surgery "are you ready to have a second birthday?" The 15th Jan is forever going to be a special day for me,

Good luck,

Jen

Shelly,

every insurance is different. Most insurance does not cover the fills. But, they will the office visit. My dr. will not even bill the fill appointments. So he said I could. My insurance will cover the appointment, fluroscope, needles and saline, but not the procedure. Crazy i know. They give you this wonderful tool , but won't help you use it! I am just going to submit them to my insurance and get what I can. My dr. does not charge alot for fill about $100 and he is trying to do them in the office instead of Hospital so he thinks they should go down to about $70. I am OK with that. It is one of those things. I thought I would just save the money from McDonalds and use it for the fills . lol

And yea they will send everything in writing.

Thanks Kristin! I appreciate all of your good info. Since I am still new to all of this every little bit of info helps. I had no idea how much fills cost. You are right on using the McDonalds money for fills!! LOL or the profit from selling all of our bigger clothing!! YEY!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
