Question

Recommended Posts

I havent posted for the last few weeks just been reading everyones posts...so here goes .....i had surgery on the 5th of dec in mississauga with Dr Coburn. Everything went like a dream ...very little discomfort and virtually no nausea afterwards , returned to work on the 12th . I did all the liquid and mushie stages no problem. Stared on solid food and again no problem until a peice of chicken got "stuck" wow...that was terrible...it has since happened two more times. I am now very careful how much i chew and how fast i eat . I had a fill last week with Dr Mitchell and that went without a hitch, although I dont feel full sooner than before the band, i am to go back in 4-6 weeks for another fill. My question is why does food get "stuck" if it is suppossed to stay in the upper pouch to make you feel full??? Im just wondering if everything is passed through the band no matter what the size then whats the point??? It seems to me that if all the food is passing through and only large peices are getting stopped and have trouble passing then you would not feel full until the lower part of the stomach is full. I hope someone can answer my questions.

But on the bright side between the pre-op diet and liquids and mushies i have lost 27 lbs ......... and cant wait to find my sweet spot !!!!!

The food stays in the top part and slowly starts to seep through to the lower part so that's why sometimes things get stuck while we are still eating. It doesn't sit in the top part for 4 hours. It actually starts to go through immediately but it takes some time for the food to pass through. The receptors to tell your brain that you are full are in the top part of the stoma so as long as you fill that then it tells your brain you are full and then you stop eating.

Can someone tell me what full is. Is it measuring the 1 cup of food allowed per meal? Is it a "stretched painfully tight" feeling, hiccups. I have all of the above. Doddie

Doddie,

Full is different for everyone. For me, it's a total loss of interest in the food in front of me, for some it's a sigh, for others it's a sneeze, for others it's a runny nose. I measure out 4 ounces of Protein and 1/2 cup of veggies. If I eat all that and still don't feel disinterested then I put a bit more on my plate as long as it's within the 20 minutes of eating. If I get that loss of interest before I'm done that, then I stop as well.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
