How Many Last Meals ... ?

Recommended Posts

I had about 5 months before I made the final decision and when I had surgery....OMG what a time!

I started having my "last meal" the very day I left the surgeons office - I stopped at a supermarket and bought EVERYTHING I shouldn't have and just began to eat... I up 16lbs before I went on my pre-op diet, and not only that, I was so fed up with junk food and sweets, that when my husband suggested on the last couple of days before I had to start the diet that maybe we go and have a few "Last Meals" I just didn't feel like doing it! He couldn't believe it - of course I didn't tell him just how much I had been binging when he wasn't there!

I remember thinking the pre-op diet was almost a relief - I must have been really ready to lose weight.

I'm set for surgery 1/29 ... and for the most part I have been good with preparing myself for the surgery and life after.

But I do seem to be eating many 'last meals'; overindulging with burgers, chocolates and carbs.

Anyone else go thru the same pre-opt craziness?

yes yes yes , i thourght it was just me? im going in 25th january.and i cannt wait.

I also had last suppers before my first fill and then again befire my 2nd fill. I will try not to have more before my third fill in 2 weeks.

This is kind of what I'm doing now. :( Thankfully I really haven't gained weight from it (well, I was up .2 this morning), but I know I'm eating things that I shouldn't. (Example - had a BAD day yesterday and make chocolate chip Cookies last night, then ate two.) I have discovered that I have no swelling left and no restriction. Thankfully my first fill is in a little over a week.

My last suppers lasted every day for a month or so - put on about 10 lbs but was lucky in that I didn't have to do a pre-op diet.

I miss eating all my favourite food - have some restriction but not enough to be full after a tiny meal - hoping that real restriction comes with my 3rd fill.

I didn't do the last meal thing, because for me I didn't feel it would do me any good emotionally. I had it in my head that I had started this journey (surgery booked etc.) what would be the point in having one last binge, I was sick of all that and desperately wanted to change, that was a good opportunity for me to start exercising some self control - being that I've failed that every other time I've tried to change my eating habits.

I went a little nuts with the eating for the month before my surgery. I just ate whatever my little heart desired, and gained 4 pounds in 4 weeks. By the time I was 4 or 5 days before my surgery, I was so sick of eating, I was just back to my normal diet. I am glad I got all of those cravings out of my system!

I had a lot of "last suppers" because I was under the impression that I'd never be able to eat at my favorite restaurants or eat my favorite meals again. Guess what? I was wrong. I've eaten all ALL of those restaurants and eaten ALL of my favorite meals since being banded. The only difference is that I can't eat nearly the same volume as I did before being banded.

Hi

I was just banded on Jan. 16. I think its very normal to go through the eating everything you think you're never going to be able to eat again phase. I kept trying to stop, but once I started the pre-op diet I was fine. Yes I did gain about 30 lbs. during that phase. I think its a very very strong individual who can get to the surgery without doing that..

Good Luck.

Oh yeah. Probably mot of us have done this. The thing is you're still gonna be eating on "the other side", and still eating 90% of what you were before, just in much much smaller amounts. I wish I could have gotten that through my head beforehand and not done so much "last meal" eating.

I had 2 weeks of last suppers! Got it out of my system, then went on the 2 week pre-0p diet and did fine! Lost 20 pounds.

I don't miss any of it now. With my change of habits, also came a change of mind. I now realize what I was doing to my body with all that garbage food. I cook more at home with fresh ingredients, and it's 100 times better than any restaurant!

Jewelee, 2 cookies!! That's great! That is what a "normal" person would eat. Congratulations! Now if you can just stop at the two and not treat yourself for another week you'll be doing great!

Learning how to eat less, and be satisified with what I've eaten is the hardest for me.

starting wgt. 225 1-07

current wgt. 150 1-08

I just started my preo-op diet of 3 shakes and one small meal a day for two weeks today. I gave myself permission to enjoy some of my favorite things like sushi, pizza, a few glasses of wine over the weekend. Although I could have gone to town and stuffed myself until I was uncomfortably full,......I didn't!! In fact, I ate way less than I normally would have. I was concious of my portion size, ate small bites and CHEWED, CHEWED, CHEWED!! I stopped after 2 pieces of pizza instead of 4, I only had two glasses of wine instead of god knows how many. It was nice to enjoy these things in moderation. In the end, that's what it's about. So, I'm happily starting my pre-op diet and feel excited about getting banded in two weeks. Although I know there will be some up's and down's along the way, it sure feels good to have some balance and not be a prisoner to binging and other unhealthy habits. Big breakthrough for me!!!

I am waiting for approval, hoping for a date in February. Just finished my 6 month "diet" required by insurance. Even though to some extent I was cutting back (lost 10 pounds) I have had so many last supper meals I can't count. The bariatric people tell you not to, but one post-op in a group said don't pay any attention to that. She ate all the stuff she knew she wouldn't be able to eat any longer, or in the quantity she was used to. I must admit I have done the same thing. I love pizza and have had more than a few these last 6 months, and spaghetti, and subs, you name it. At the same time I am working on the real issue, head hunger, trying to mentally prepare myself for the drastic change. Some days I am really good (today I am eating carrot sticks, celery sticks, snow peas with a little ranch dip, and a small can of V8 for lunch, and for a snack later instead of a snack pack full I counted 20 almonds and brought them with me. For Breakfast I had a 4 oz fat free yogurt and an apple. I know it will be a while before I can eat even this stuff post op, but I am doing better than a sub by far). I am eating my way through my pantry, and once I get a date I have two weeks before and after on liquids, so I will pack up whatever is left and give to a food pantry. Bottom line is, you are normal as far as I can tell. We really need to look at the addictive behavior that makes us eat so much bad stuff.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
